10 1/2" Coil for Tesero Sand Shark

Has anybody used the 10 1/2" coil on a Sand Shark. I like the 8" coil for its lightness but think I need a little more depth especially when the targets are few and far between. Also, has anybody noticed any difference in depth by increasing the pulse width? I was doing a little unscientific experimenting today and really didn't notice any difference in depth by turning up the pulse width.

Harvdog,
I have the 10.5 on the Sand Shark and it balances very well with the detector box mounted behind the shaft, just under the arm cuff. It is a little hard to get to controls, but once set, I pretty much don't fiddle with them. With this set up I can swing the Sand Shark all day and not have my elbow bother me.

Before this weekend's trip I spent a little time playing with the pulse width on different targets and found that with a target laying on the ground, I got a little more distance on a nickle if the pulse width was just above the preset than I did at other settings. Quarters, dimes and pennies I got a little more depth when the pulse width was slightly below the preset. Since these are essentially air tests, they may not hold true with targets in the ground. I didn't see a lot of difference changing the pulse width, about 1/2 to 1 inch change at most and what worked better on a nickle lost depth on dime and quarter.

Earlier today, the deepest target I dug with the Sand Shark was a fishing hook in bad shape about 10 inches down. It didn't scream, but it wasn't a very faint whisper either. I did get a dime at about 6 to 7 inches in an area of very black looking sand, the dime was a good signal.

Hey tvr thanks for the info. Have you compared the 10 1/2" to the 8" on depth? I've noticed the 8" is pretty sensitive to little bits of everything. You can hit a 1/4" long piece of fish hook no problem. Maybe too sensitive. Have you noticed that the 10 1/2" is a little less sensitive?

I have the 8 inch but have not used it yet. I have dug little tiny slivers of iron while using the 10.5 on the Sand Shark. A good magnet in the scoop helps keep me from digging those little pieces of iron more than once.
