10/05 Lame Nut Hunt...

Gulf Hunter

Active member
Had severe cabin fever, so after work I went for a spin down the lane. Hunted through a 1.9 high into around a .9 low. Pretty desperate huh? Lame conditions, sanded in and pounding surf. Davy still has us all locked up with sand, not even a cent. But I got a spoon! I have been throwing this crap out, but thought I would share with ya'll. HH

ARGGGGGGGGGGG my Galveston Island Surf Pirate friend looks like u should have tennis elbow from diggin all that junk ! Hey we will find that locker again an but it open my pirate friend!

He was talking about a 1.9 foot "positive" high tide and a .9 foot "negative" low tide, meaning it came in or went out that much further than normal.

Judging by the items he found, I would say he was using a Pulse Induction (PI) machine, which is normally no-disc, therefore all-metal.

Yea Steve, but I am still scared to lose any sensitivity. Using a Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II and it finds EVERYTHING it passes over as long as it's not too deep. Tried discriminating some, but feel like I'm losing a little depth and maybe good targets. Coastwise is running an Excal and I will be watching his progress carefully in the future. When I start getting a regular spanking then I may consider spending the grand. As of right now I'll dig.

Mike my tide chart did not indicate a negative tide on that low, it was just .9. Time to hit some fresh water rivers or lakes with coastwise. We're sanded in big time.

Well hello mr Gulf Hunter..........
Glad to see your total dedication to the cause....guess I will wait for a more favorable time to dig !!! Do you ever have good days during the cold winter months ??? or are you one of those "fair weather" types - LOL

Rick

I'm about as serious as we get dude. Got a wetsuit and will hunt during the day in temps to around 50 or so. At night it gets uncomfortable unless the air temp warms up some. I hunt all the way through winter and yes, gold/silver does show then as well.HH P.S.-got you're surf equipment together yet?

Bad experience...
Bought a Sea Hunter Mark II last week..first day out at local lake...went in about waist high..submerged the unit and got a shock in my hand..came out with the detector and it was fried...NOT WATERPROOF !!! Hmmmmmm So I returned it ..got my money back and looking again !!!!!

Rick

I have no idea what the problem is, but the Mark II is 200 foot submersible. Garrett will make it right, give them a chance. Have been submerging mine in the surf since '04 without any waterproof failures. HH
