10,000 years of history.....

to last Monday's spot. Unfortunately too much of it was recent history  I spotted this site from the highway on the Friday before the long weekend. There was heavy machinery scraping off the topsoil in preparation for a new shopping mall. We don't have enough of those in Canada yet  The field is about 100 acres and at one side I could see where an old foundation had been exposed. Monday the 22nd was the holiday so I decided to hit it then. By the time I got there the foundation was gone and they had filled in the hole

What couldn't be seen from the highway because of a hill was the big piles of garbage that had been dumped all over the field. I think I dug 10 chunks of aluminum for every piece of copper, brass or lead.

Judging from the finds this place had been occupied for the past 10,000 years or so and at least until the 1960's. I was getting everything including car parts. A bunch of melted blobs and other bits and pieces. Didn't save any aluminum :)

Half a powder flask, balls, watch keys etc.

Almost everything I found that should have been a keeper was worn, corroded or damaged by the earth movers. Some coins, buttons dating from colonial times to around 1900 and a tiny sterling pin. The button with the lock and belt is kind of cool. Don't know what it signifies.

There were hundreds of pieces of points lying around but all crushed to bits. The most complete one I found is 2" long. The teeth were found in the same area as the points. No idea what they are, possibly bear.

Thanks for looking & GH, Chris
