1 :gt interference 2:stability on the beach ?

hi all, i have two questions concernign the gt:
i have been getting interference from underground cables, i'm guessing either high voltage or some communication cables , am not sure if maybe also from mobile phone stations , there was one in the area where i was today. just wanted to know if that is ok or should the sov gt take care of that. the interference manifests itself as a pulsating threshold in am, and nulling and falsing in disc. it goes away when i walk away from where the cable is located.

another question concerns the beach, i was going in all metal and the threshold would react when i was passing over the salt water line, i thought the gt would be more stable on the beach, i did turn the sens down to10 o'clock or so but still passing over water would cause the threshold to change.
watching the movies of the excal on youtube i saw that it was very stable and would not react to salt water at all, and since the excal is the sov, i am wondering if maybe i am doing something wrong or is my gt malfunctioning
thanks, cheers!

I found I run my noise cancel in freq 2 for my hunting and when I get electical interference I switch to freq 1 and normaly takes care of it.
The GT I feel for beach hunting i would run in disc with the control set as low as it will go as all you will reject is the iron, all metal I dont feel will compensate from going to wet to dry ground like disc mode will.
You say you turn the sensitivity down to the 10 o'clock postion, that sound hight to me as 9 is max sensitivity as the controls are oposite of any other detector as all the way clockwise is very low sensitivity and all the way counter clockwise before it clicks is max sensitivity, when it click like you turned it off that will be the auto sensitivity.

thanks rick

yeah, sorry i ment 2-3 o'clock sensitivity :)
i was at the beach only for half an hour so don't remember if i tried going over water in disc. i always have the disc setting on lowest and go with the tones, when i have a signal i check what disc setting cuts it out though.
as for the interference i also had the impression that flipping the noise cancell helps, i was just curious if i should be getting interference at all, but from what you say it sounds like it's normal (it figures i guess :) ). as i got my gt on ebay sometimes i get suspicious and start thinking maybe it is not completely in order, just my paranoia

Electrical interference can eat you up. Motor boating noise in AM and falsing and nulling In disc.
Some sources of interference are fairly obvious while others are not.
Lower sensitivity, smaller coil, and of course distance all have an effect on cutting it down.

Not sure about the sov gt, this goes for my excals, both..800 & 1000..... and I would guess you are talking about the Videos I put up?.....If so, I have found certain Beach's have different effects on the excals........Some they are stable in AM and others the go crazy....the crazies I either have to hunt in Disc and adjust the sensitivity down to a stable point. And the same goes for the Depth, on my regular beach in OC I can hit 16 to 18 inch's in AM in the wet sand and it is rare but but even deeper..But, in the salty waters of the Florida gulf where I hunted recently, Disc works best and the best depth I could get this past time was about 10 inch's, Max.....and almost the same in AM...fresh water this time in Florida...all was very stable, and it was hitting deep again.....the smaller coil is alot more stable and I can get away with more sensitivity but I lose the coverage....where you hunt you have to adjust to the conditions for that area, I will have to put that in my future video's .....................Good Luck.........Obn

thanks guys, that is very helpful, seems all is ok with my machine which is what i wanted to hear :) i already have some experience with the gt on land, but the beach is new territory to me, next time i hope to have more time and find out the best settings for the area. cheers, hh!
