1/8" jack loosening up

Starting to regret not getting the Sunray stand now, as the jack is getting loose and sound starting to cut out at times. I'd like advice from anyone who has repaired this problem himself. Is it easy to open up the case and solder or replace the jack?
Thanks,
Bark

Hey Bark,
It can be done if you are at least mildly handy with a screw driver and soldering iron. Radio shack sells the exact replacment. Putting the case back together is the hardest part.
I can walk you through it in more detail if needed.

Hey Bark! Been there,done that.As Chris says,It
comes apart easy and is a little tricky going back togeather. Just watch closely as you open it up and note where & how all the wires are routed. You
don't want to pinch any as it goes back togeather.
Go ahead and buy the Sun stand as the problem will
just repeat itself with enough movement of the
headset cable. The stand prevents this. I'm here to
help if you need it. Tracy

If it is under warranty won't doing that void the warranty?

Sounds like something I will tackle as I even fix my own furnace (stubborn!). It probably voids the warranty so I will check on how much warranty is left if any, and plan on obtaining the Sun Ray stand. Meanwhile, I have plenty of time during the off season to fix it.

Are there any "preventative" measures that one can take from this happening in the first place?
I've always been used to a quarter inch jack which is more robust, prior to having an Explorer. Also I've always felt that I may inadvertently knock the small jack plug with my upper arm whilst detecting. It sticks out a bit like a sore thumb!!!

Hey Mike,
Seems that most people with the sunray stand don't have this problem, but I would think that you still could bump the plug from the sunray and break the socket. When my 1/8 jack broke sunray was back ordered on the stands so I soldered a more robust 1/4 inline socket (hangs out from the 1/8 jack hole on about 6 inches of cord). This means that the socket is not rigidly mounted to the explorer and there is nothing to bump and bust. I like it, but did give up the option of using the built in speaker on the Explorer. I posted a picture of this earlier, see if I can find it.
