1.35 - 1.37

Confused

New member
What does it mean when my CTX keeps hitting at 1.35 to 1.37 along with iron most of the time? I will get a good TID in all directions and when I dig it up it's iron or nothing at all. Do I just ignore that TID or what?

Thanks,

Rod

If you dig the hole and there is nothing there but the iron, I would suggest it means you are running with too much Sensitivity, sweeping the coil too quickly, or both. JMHO HH Randy

What are you considering a "good" TID/sound? What mode are you running? Are you using discrimination? More info...

Couple things. Some iron has decomposed as such and its orientation in the ground just makes the detector see it. It shouldn't be happening a lot. If you're digging a lot of iron you are probably:
(1) running too high sensitivity for conditions
(2) running too little discrimination, also large rusty iron can indeed sound good at times even with quite a bit of disc
(3) not watching where the "iron" detects versus pinpoints
(4) not circling the target enough while sweeping and paying attention to see if the spot of detection varies
(5) are just desperate as I am sometimes and pushing the envelope on a bogus signal trying to pull a hail marry find
(6) you have infact discovered a good target with detector in iron and just missed finding the good target. I can count as many as 5 times that I know of where I got a fairly good signal started digging and pulled multiple nails thinking I had been fooled and what just about ready to quit and dig a little deeper or off to ther side to discover a silver coin. An inline probe may have helped me.

Haha! Hail Mary. I know exactly what you mean by that. I too chase some of the very questionable signals with high hopes.

Ferrous-Coin separation will cause iron falsing more that the other separation settings.

Hi there Rod.

The next time you experience such a 'target' as 01 _37 whatever, observe the depth indication, if registering..... or not.

Also note the behaviour of your detector when attempting to pin-point the 'Target'.....if at all possible.

On very rare occasions, I've chased such a phantom targets and only discovered a piece of wet cinder.

If you do have the problem again, try and remember to check it for depth reading and pin-point-ability.

I rarely bother with a target I can't pin-point......Tex

P.S. Remember one thing.....the detector doesn't lie, and so there is always a reason....we just some times fail to realise what it is.

guilty of #5 fur-sure
very much agree with the good PP,,, if it's not a solid hit and in the same place from every direction then it may be junk,,,

It happens a lot using the Beach Mode. Yes, I will dig a lot for that Hail Mary and the simple fact that I am learning every time I'm out as this is my first MD. Went to the beach today, but came up empty except for some change. Oh yeah and a Hot wheel. Thanks for all your help guys. Rod
