I've had mine since they first came out. Here are some of the things I've learned:
(1 having the first 6" of the coil wire run straight up the shaft before winding it the rest of the way keeps it quieter.
(2. 4 bars sensitivity is the all-around, universally best setting at most sites. I run mine at 3 bars in trashy areas.
(3 Relics mode is awesome for most situations-a/m mode is stunning in tot lots.
(4 For high-trash areas, I use the customs mode. I duplicate the coins mode, but I ADD the foil icon so I will find the gold rings that fall in this area. Then I can return at the touch of a button.
(5 WITHIN REASON, speeding the sweep speed up causes the detector to go deeper. Thus, at 3 bars sensitivity and a fast swing, I can duplicate 4 bars depth without all the noise!
(6 The motion discriminate mode sometimes, in some grounds, goes deeper than the pinpoint mode-so if you get a REPEATABLE signal and it goes silent in pinpoint, you could STILL have a deep target.
(7 The TOE of the sniper coil can get closer to poles than the HEEL of the coil, and at 1-2 bars sensitivity,, I can almost touch the bar.
(8 The pinpoint button is a great SIZING tool for targets and aids in the identifying of oversize objects. Another way is to raise the coil.
