Coil flop on Whites PI Pro detector

I just picked up used Whites PI Pro detector and tried it out at low tide today. Man it can sure pick up small junk wire! I did find a Tungston Carbide ring. I still have an Excal 1000, but thought I would give a PI a try. Question I have is, I started having a big problem with the coil...

    My scoop is breaking!!:sadwalk:

The stainless steel scoop I bought last summer has started to break on me. I started hearing a cracking sound while digging Monday. It seems the weld is going and the steel bar seems to be cracking. Can anyone recommend a good place to have the scoop welded back together in the Norfolk, VA...

Lost wedding band at 11th St VA Beach

I was approached by a man yesterday afternoon about a wedding band he had lost yesterday. He was swimming off 11th street just north of the lifeguard station. I went into the mine for a few minutes, but the waves were too strong since it was already 2 hours past low tide. I may have had the...

Just back from my week at the beach. Hardly any gold, and it looks like I may have a defective Excal 1000 :sadwalk:

My week of catching every low tide is complete. I didn't find many targets and only a little gold with no gold rings. While others around me found gold rings, I found a little clad and a couple silver rings and one SS ring. I will keep on trying though. I tried going out into the mine some...

I was threatened by a swimmer at the beach today!:ranting: Gold though!

I started a week at the Virginia Beach oceanfront metal detecting for every low tide and met up with a very unpleasant swimmer. I was starting into the mine and a man approached me and told me in a very threatening and nasty way that "My children are here in the water and if they hit you and are...

My new Excal 1000 arrived today!!:bouncy:

My new Excal 1000 arrived this afternoon and I already have it mounted on my straight shaft and have the battery charging for tomorrow's hunt. I also have an Excal 800 that I purchased used off Ebay last summer that always gave me problems in the water and now I know why... I was always...

    New detector on the way!!!:bouncy:

I have been wanting to get out into the water and do my detecting. I have been using a Sov Elite with 12.5 Sunray Coil and it falsed every time I touched a little water. I also have an Excal 800 purchased second-hand from Ebay last summer. I was never happy with the coverage of the 8" coil and...

Just back from the Lane - Got taken by a little girl

I took off early from work this afternoon and dropped by the lane just in time for low tide. I passed Low Tide Time as soon as I got there. I managed to find a spinner mood ring, silver ring and silver toe ring, but only took home the spinner mood ring plus clad. Around 16th to 17'th street, a...

Was down to the beach for 2 hours in the winds and high seas

I went down to the VA Beach oceanfront to try some detecting in the high seas and high winds. It was a real battle from 5:00pm until 7:30pm. The winds must have been gusting over 40 mph at times and the walking was quite difficult going North and quite fast and easy going back South. I found a...

Just returned from a sunrise time in the lane - Bleak now:thumbdown:

I just finished a morning in the lane and it was bleak. I didn't bring the little loot in, so I don't have a photo of the loot. I found about 50 cents in clad including one quarter. I think the sand has moved back in because I went for long stretches without a signal. Here are a few beach...

:bouncy:My finds from the last three days at the beach! Gold! Diamonds!

I have been taking a relaxing timeshare week at Va Beach this week and managed to get out and detect the low tides of Wednesday and Thursday. (I am about to head out again today). On Wednesday, I found a good pocket of jewelry and found several silver pieces of jewelry and then one nice 14K...

Old finds in a sand volleyball court this afternoon (Not quite the beach)

The tides were on the way to high when I got off work this afternoon, so I decided to do some jewelry hunting in a local park. I looked in the playgound, but didn't find much, so I decided to try the sand volleyball court. This is a vollyeball court I had detected previously using my Whites MXT...

Looks like I found the owner of the tungsten carbide ring found this weekend.

Over the weekend after the noreaster I found a tungsten carbide ring made by TrewTungsten. Max took a photo and had posted it online over the weekend but, but I thought it was titanium at the time. Each ring has an engraved serial number, so I contacted the company over the web and provided...

Whites headphones in my Sovereign Elite went out! Recommendations!

I was out at Virginia Beach detecting yesterday when my headphones went dead. I guess they couldn't take the salt environment at the beach. I was using the Whites headphones used on the MXT. I ended up having to detect the rest of the time with just the speaker, and that was a real pain. I am...

Found Diamonds and Gold in the Lane yesterday afternoon!!:bouncy:

I took a stroll down the lane for yesterday's low tide from 1:00PM until 6:30PM and found mainly the usual suspects of clad, pull tabs, bottle tops etc. but then managed to find this nice looking earring with stones. After my previous encounters with Nitro, I assumed the stones were CZ unless...

If the latest forecast from the NHC holds, Virginia Beach may have a change in the weather coming

The NHC has just updated their forecast track for Hurricane Ernesto and has it crossing Florida and coming out to the Atlantic coast. The track doesn't look good for Florida, but it could bring us a change in the weather and seas to maybe expose more gold.

Threshold changing in the surf, is this normal?

The last time I was out in the mine hunting, every time the waves washed over the top of my detector, the threshold changed on me. I turned the sensitivity down to the 1:00 and even 2:00 position and it still seemed to change with wave hits. Is this normal or could I have an electical problem...

Correction from previous post - Week at oceanfront over with diamond rings!:clapping:

I took my new diamond/gemstone tester on a visit to my family and they wanted me to try it out on some of their stones. I tried it on some that were known to be diamonds, but the tester was not saying diamond. This model of diamond/gemstone tester does refer to a possibility of being out of...

My week at the oceanfront now over-no diamonds:surrender:

I was out yesterday from 3:00PM until 8:00PM, and came away with a lot of change and one earring that looks like silver (I need to clean it up some) I went in at 22nd street, went north to the Cavalier, back south to the pier and back up to 22nd street. I found a lot of crusty coins, even a 1965...

Results from 4 days at the beach:blowup:

I have been staying down at the oceanfront since Saturday and catching every low tide since then. My feet are really complaining to me and I picked up a pretty bad sunburn, but I think my time has been worthwile so far. I plan on catching every low tide this week until Saturday and hope my luck...
