Magnets in the bottom of scoop?

I have read articles on the forum about magnets in the bottom of scoops. My question is WHY you would need a magnet in the scoop. My Whites DFX does not pick up steel on the beach. Thanks Rockin Tees

Do they know something that I don't?

I was watcing a couple metal detecting on the beach yesterday at low tide. They were not out where the low tide was. They were only working the high tide mark out about 10 to 20 feet. I always though the ZONE was in the middle. Am I missing something here. Thanks Rockin Tees

    ID Dog Tag from beach

I found this dog tag on the beach today. Does anyone know what branch of service this came from. Having a the service number puts it around WWII. I have found USMC tags that were old but the shape is different. The rubber guard was around it when found. Thanks
