Big silver and a cool button

The best of this weeks finds included an 1879 Half crown (which equates to 30 pennies) and an artilleryman's brass button which went into production in 1902 and was in use during WW I. Both gave 11-45 readings. Love finding big silver! Hoover.

    Silver tally hits 50

Visited my favourite park on the weekend and found my 50th silver for that site. It just keeps on producing! What made me even happier was that it was a 1924 sixpence which is one of the rarer dates. The 1884 penny was also in good nick and the 1936 penny had not corroded much which is a problem...

Rescued my first aussie colonial silver

Found my first 18th century coin yesterday at my favourite park and even though its obviously been kept as a token, Im over the moon with this find! Australia was first settled by the British in 1788, so they wont come much earlier than this. Id love to think that it was brought over by someone...

    5 silver lookout

Went to one of our cities best lookouts and enjoyed more than the view. It was the first time Id ever found five silvers in one session and three of them in the one hole! What was even more pleasing was the great condition the three larger coins are in. The threepence's are 1921 and 1922. I went...

    Christmas disappointment

Ive been using an xterra70 for the past 3 years with good results (9 gold rings and plenty of pre-1900's coins), though you always wonder what you might be missing. Decided to upgrade to the etrac after seeing the results and comments from this forum. Bought a brand spanking new one from the...

    Luck of the Irish

I found this claddagh ring last week at my favourite beach. (First gold ring for the summer season). The Claddagh is a traditional Irish ring that is worn as a token of love. The elements of this symbol are often said to correspond to the qualities of love (the heart), friendship (the hands)...

    World War 1 badge

Found this badge at my local park. It was awarded to personnel who "returned from active service" and were given an honourable discharge during world war 1. The AIF stands for Australian Imperial Forces, and the badge allowed servicemen and women to show they had fulfilled their nationalistic...

    Cleaning Victorian silver?

Here are two recent finds from my local park. The coins are an 1879 florin and an 1896 half crown-English coins used in Australia. The ground is very mineralised and the silver has tarnished and become very grey. Ive tried soaking in distilled water and lemon juice, though am reluctant to use...

Some interesting finds on a long weekend

Found these three items at my local park, which is proving to be a great little producer. The ring is 9 carat and was at a similar depth to the other finds (5 to 6 inches) so Im guessing it also is about a hundred years old. The Sydney cricket ground badge is one of the earliest enamel badges...

    Found myself a new passion

Ive been detecting for about three years now and have mainly been concentrating on the beaches (with moderate success) and decided to broaden my horizons. I purchased a detectorpro pistol probe for xmas and haven't looked back. Ive found that many of our local parks have not been done...

    Feedback on hipsticks?

I was wondering if anyone has used a hip stick with the xterra 70 or can recommend any harness set up to help with long periods of detecting? Hoover.

    Xterra finding gold

Over the past year, my brother in law and I have been working a patch in an old gold mining area. This is my effort for about five visits. The XT70 is amazing on small gold. The largest slug is about 1.1grams and the smallest less than 0.1grams. My brother in law lives in the area and has...

    End of season beach find

This 18Carat diamond ring was a great surprise to an end of season hunt on the beach. Just love this hobby! and so does my wife.

    Just love the beach

Thought this might warm the hearts of our northern hemisphere friends. Ive been using the 10.5" HFDD with my XT 70 and its now my coil of choice when detecting on the beach. Since Jan01 Ive bagged $275 from a number of different beaches in my area as well as these gold and silver items shown...
