Anyone tested the XT-Pro in rusty nails

Honestly, my testing is done in the field. IMO, the controlled tests are typically close to worthless, mostly because they are either air tests or involve disturbed ground. So far, my findings are about the same as KSDfisher77. My first two hunts were in a farm field where there had been a...

    Monitor

I disagree. Much of the technology and many of the Pro's features were pioneered by the old Xterra. They really aren't that different.

    X-Terra Pro

Not really. Not all V-Flex is the same, which is part of the reason we can't use our old Xterra coils on the new machines, and why we couldn't use CTX coils on the old machines. Frankly, I'm just happy that we can use Equinox coils at all.

Finally A Little Silver With The New Pro

I still had the Coiltek NOX-15 on it from the field hunts. Ran in 5kHz, All Metal, All Tones, Recovery 2, Tracking ON. When I encounter jumpy mid to low tones that sound like maybe they're something worthwhile, I switch to 15kHz to see if it settles down. If it does, I dig it. If it doesn't...

Finally A Little Silver With The New Pro

I did something that I rarely do anymore, and I hit a small local park where they were tearing out the old ball diamond to put in some newfangled bike thing. Dug an old varsity Baseball pin, a bunch of copper Memorials, 6 Wheats, a '46 Nickel, and a '50 Rosie. Oddly, three of the six Wheats I...

Some observations of equinox coils on Xterra Pro

I got out a little with the XT-Pro and the Coiltek NOX15 coil over the weekend, and I have a few observations to report. First, the 15" coil does seem to run deeper than the stock coil....no real surprise. Second, the Coiltek coil for the Equinox doesn't seem to tame the TID much if any at...

    X-Terra Pro vs. Vanquish 440?

I understand completely.......even the age related advantage of a new machine over the old FBS units. My point was mostly that there more valid lines of thought about upgrades than we can express. FOR ME, it's worked out well to have more than one detector, so I have four that I use. Each...

    X-Terra Pro vs. Vanquish 440?

I see things a bit differently. To me, the availability of options for settings means flexibility. If what you're doing isn't working, change something! I put a lot of time into actually learning my machines, and I just shake my head when someone says they've "mastered" a machine after only...

    X-Terra Pro vs. Vanquish 440?

You might just want to pick up the Xterra Pro and keep the Vanquish. Let me explain my thinking. I've got an Xterra 705 and an Explorer SE. One three frequency (one at a time, determined by coil selection), and one multi-frequency machine. They're a dynamic duo. Between the two, there weren't...

Some observations of equinox coils on Xterra Pro

Interesting observations. I have a Coiltek NOX15 coil coming next week, so I'll add to this thread once I've had a chance to play with it a little. Personally, I'm one of the "old school" guys that hunts primarily by tones, but if I see a distinct improvement in TID stability I'll be...

First Impressions with the Xterra Pro

What I want to see is what it does in each mode and each frequency on undisturbed targets at various depths. The new Pro hasn't been out long enough for there to be any real consensus on TIDs, and there may well never be one, as soil conditions vary so much. I don't put much stock in air test...

First Impressions with the Xterra Pro

I'll be interested in Tim's reply as well. I haven't gotten over a nickel yet, but I suspect it may depend on what frequency you're using. That is something that I will experiment with when I start hunting residential permissions.

Found today any idea's on age ? No rust at all

Pretty old actually. Wrought Iron doesn't rust as much as modern steel.

Unstable vdi on the exterra pro

In most of the videos I've seen the user is sweeping the target too fast for starters. Beyond that, my take is that the TID is mostly unimportant because audio rules! If a more stable TID is the goal, then reduce the sensitivity and/or change frequencies to one that is more accurate for the...

Just pre ordered the xterra pro

I'm looking forward to your impression of it. For the $ I was skeptical, but it proved itself to me with my first three coins found being over 135 years old and pulled from an iron infested site.

Found at resale shop - Any help with ID appreciated

I'm inclined to believe that it's an ashtray, too. Not necessarily intended for cigarettes or cigars, but quite possibly for pipes. Chinese have smoked pipes for centuries.

Just pre ordered the xterra pro

Being a 705 devotee and a moderator on this forum, I felt somewhat compelled to get the new Pro mostly so I could stay up to speed for new members to the forum. The transition to the new Pro is an easy one for old Xterra users because the language the machine speaks is quite similar. The...

Just pre ordered the xterra pro

FWIW, I hunt by audio. Numbers are just something to look at, but audio is where it's at. I typically run All Metal and All Tones w/Recovery no faster than 2. It sounds busy, but in reality, it teaches you the proper sweep speed for conditions. I noticed that the YouTube videos mostly show...
