    Vance Detecting.

I ordered a Equinox 800 from Jeremy Vance at Vance Metal Detectors and got it in 2 1/2 weeks. That's pretty hard to beat, considering the current demand. Everything went smooth as silk. He keeps it real. Thanks, Jeremy for the excellent service and lightning-fast shipping...

    Thanks Richard@BackwoodDetectors.

Richard was kind enough to share some excellent detecting advice with me today about the Vista Gold Gain when I picked it up today. I probably could have had him mail it, but it was a lot more fun to pick it up in person and share stories with him. Richard gives personal service and advice...

Question: will the Equinox have to be sent to a service center to replace the battery?

Some say yes, but I haven’t seen an official answer yet.

Well, finally made my mind up about what coil I want to put on my Excal, and now I can't find anybody who has one in stock.

Specifically the Slimline Tornado 8" Coil for the Excal. However, I did notice on the description for this coil that it was waterproof only down to 1 meter, in which case I might be better off. I did find vendors for the NEL Sharpshooter (fully waterproof--9.5" X 5'5" DD), and the CORS...

I heard a rumor about a new metal detector by Fisher. Is it true?

I heard they were working on a waterproof pulse machine that discriminates. Anybody know the skinny on this?

If any of the testers of the equinox read this forum, why don't you conduct a conclusive test of the machine?

Instead of resorting to sleight of hand tests and surface target tests, show us how deep the detector will detect a coin or non-ferrous object, and the solidity of the VDI. Please.

    Question about WS5 headphones.

If I understand correctly, the headphones can be used to adjust the detector's functions, such as frequency, mode, discriminate, etc. Is this a convenient feature, and if so, how many people use it? Thanks

Just want to thank everyone who replied to my questions.

I really, really appreciate the feedback and kind words. I've been swinging a detector since about 1974, but only got involved in water hunting about three years ago, and that being limited to fresh water. It's hard making up my mind where water machines are concerned--lots of choices (Fisher...

Some more Excal questions (please bear with me)

I contacted Minelab Kellyco prior to sending my Excal 1000 in for mods and a checkup. I plan to have the machine modded with a pinpoint switch, coil replaced, and have them address the O-rings, and some issues I am having with it. I asked, but they no longer do the mod which allows the user...

    Excal questions.

I plan to mail my Excal 1000 to Minelab at Kellyco for maintenance and a checkup, so to speak. I know to only send them the coil and control unit, and that it will probably take them quite some time to get to it. Basically, I want the machine given a good going over--checking the calibration...

F75 emi, interference, all metal question.

It seems like every time I take my F75 out, regardless of the location, I get some sort of interference that causes my machine to emit a cacophony of short beeps and chirps, accompanied by the target ID numbers jumping around. It lasts from 10-30 seconds in most cases, then stops for various...

    Question about Koss headphones.

Seems like most are pretty satisfied with Koss headphones. I've seen some for sale on the big retailers anywhere from $18.00 to $70.00. Is there any reason NOT to purchase a more affordable set instead of a set made for a particular brand of metal detector?

Who says Fisher "F" machines can't hunt in wet salt sand?

This fellow is on a NC beach at the surf line. First he tunes the detector and ground balances in all metal mode, and detects a gold ring buried 7" deep. Then he switches to Disc, and detects the same ring. You can hear the difference in audio between the AM and DISC. Audio-wise, it sounds...

If you beach/surf/swimming hole detect with a CZ

You need to get Tom Dankowski's DVD "Metal Detecting Real World Techniques Beach and Swimming Hole Hunting." It is worth every penny. The segment on detecting micro-gold was especially revealing.

    1266/1270

A friend has both the 1266 and 1270, and both are in need of servicing. Does Fisher/First Texas still work on these models, or does he need to look elsewhere for servicing? Thanks in advance; Greg (E.Tn)

    Hey Richard:

Yesterday, I hunted that first field on the right after driving past the new church. The one everyone was hunting in the first and second day. I'm pretty sure the club that sponsored the hunt hit it hard the first day, then when we got there Friday, about twenty people were in it all day. We...

1st real hunt with the Vista Gold.

FINALLY, got out for a real field test of the Vista Gold at a very well worked Civil War site in SE Tennessee. I first hunted the site around 1982-83, and that was after it had been pounded to death by the people who originally found it--they were using Fisher 1260's at the time, if that gives...

Need recommendations or advice regarding large, aftermarket coils for the F75.

I have looked at so, so many videos here and there regarding aftermarket big coils on different detectors to get an additional inch or two of depth, while maintaining good discrimination. Does anyone have any direct observations or experience using larger than stock NEL or other aftermarket...

What is your favorite aftermarket coil for the AT Gold?

Considering adding one to the arsenal, and would value your feedback. Thanks; Greg
