How does the SE really stack up against the II?

I have been using the SE for a year now. I have done pretty good with it. One of the main reasons that I bought the new machine is because of it's advertised "handles iron better". To me it seems that just the opposite is true. Shortly after learning the SE I noticed that, unlike the XS and the...

Die Crack And Odd Lettering On IH Cent

Anybody seen lettering like this before? There is a tiny die crack going into the S and T then out the A in states. What has me wondering is the sort of blob-ish outline on the letters (mostly offset to the left as shown). The TAT letters look joined at the baseline. The last S in states almost...

Explorer SE acting up a bit...

Last night as I was hunting I noticed that on almost every high coin hit the SE would bounce to a nickel tone unless I had the coil directly above the target. Even directly above the target it would bounce to a low tone once in a while. I have never noticed this before. I was using my standard...

    Barber Dime and IH...

The Barber dime is a little... worn, but I will put it in a coin sleeve to protect what's left (har har). Yes that is really a dime. You can see the date at the bottom, 1907 and on the back "one di.." is visible. The IH is in a little better shape. I went out with a couple of friends that are...

    Help me out...

Sorry, I know this stuff has been covered before but I don't have time to search through the archives. I have a couple questions about the F75. Does it have tone ID? What is the actual weight? How does it ground balance? Any big positives/negatives you have experienced? I know very little...

    A couple of 1911's

Had permission to hunt these folks farmhouse yard. Ended up with three Indian head cents a few wheats and these plus a silver rosy. The little coin was a seated liberty half dime until it got home under the magnifier, darn. I will take it though, not too many Chile coins found here in MI. HH - BF

Yep, hunted out site gives up another...

I ended up with plan C... I hunted in a woods that was a horse racing track way back when. The last few times there I have been skunked. It is nice hunting though, quiet, usually not much trash except concentrated areas. Anyway, I found a 1924 wheat right away and then three hours later I heard...

    Only found one old coin...

... but it is a keeper 1868 Indian in great shape!! Probably an $80 coin. The scan looks worse than the coin, the patina is thin and the copper is showing through in spots. I found it at a farm house that must have been hunted before - not even a wheat cent, only this one coin out by the trees...

    Found a class ring!

It was a slow hunt in areas I had covered before. As I was heading to the car, I hunted through the electric interference zone. I was surprised when the interference let up before I got to the road. I hunted the small patch and dug a wheat cent and then this nice ring! Made my night. It is from...

    A fun after work hunt...

After about twenty drive-by's, last night the guy was mowing his lawn. He is fixing up the old house and lives elsewhere. He granted me permission and while I was hunting the neighbor came over and offered his yard too! I only covered half of the property so I will most likely go back. Finds...

    Any California folks out there?...

I am headed to northern CA for a ten day visit with my son and his family. I will be staying near Willow Creek. It looks like tons of National Forest in that area. Can you detect in National Forest? Any tips or suggestions would be great. If you are close, maybe we could meet up for some...

    Folk Art Large Cent

Had a great time with a couple of Iron Brigadiers, Neal and Steve from Indiana. We hit a plowed field. Someone had way too much time on their hands - pounded this large cent into almost a hexagon. They also did some work on the letter E in cent. HH - BF

    Sunday hunt...

I met up with Neal and Tim to do some detecting. Everybody found some goodies. Here is my take. The Large cent is dateless. The copper thing is a large button. It was great to hunt with the Iron Brigade again. HH - BF

    Excalibur Modification...

After a couple hours at the beach Tues. my arm was tired and wrist numb. The thing has always felt way too heavy. Back home I got to thinking about the straight shafts with the control/battery mount behind the elbow. I had a hip mount that I got with the machine but stopped using since everyone...

    IH with two eyes???

I got to looking at this IH and it is probably just an old scrape but the more I look the more it looks like another eye. It sort of looks like something got punched in there. What do you think damage or mint error? It is hard to get scanned in clearly. Thanks and HH - BF

    Indian Head Spree!

Last weekend we hunted a field with little success. My buddy pulled one IH and two buttons. I dug trash. We headed up to the owners house and started talking. Pretty soon the brother of the owners wife came by and offered his yard to detect. He said it had been hunted before but that we were...

Century of Progress Worlds Fair Fob...

Had a good time at a private residence last tuesday. Old home with a four year old that loved following me around. I ended up with a '42 Washington qtr., two IHs, 15 wheats and this nice fob. I gave the two IH to the owners - they were happy and so was I. Does anyone know what the U & L.R.P.A...

Lots of detecting and only one keeper...

We hit four spots in fields, one in a woods and one that was a junk pile. I only found this nice LC and a clad dime and quarter. Much better than not finding anything. My buddy only found a LC and two flat buttons. Don't you hate it when it seems like you are following the tracks of previous...

Had some luck on Friday the 13th...

It finally quit raining, sleeting and snowing. I had lined up permission on a corner lot that use to have a school house (back to 1860). I took the afternoon off and had a blast with the site all to myself. The owner stopped in to see how I was doing. Here is the treasure plus I found a junk...
