    Short Field Hunt...

I went back to a field I hit this spring. It was slim pickin's. Found this 1918 Merc. and nice old gilt button plus some suspender buckles, toe taps and junk. It was the nicest day in a long time. For some reason I just could not get into it though. Oh, well maybe next time. Any ideas on the GT...

    Sunday Afternoon...

Can you hear the Moody Blues playing in the background? I went back to the property that use to be a park and then a scout camp. I found this stuff and a couple wheats and clad. I had to work for these. The seated dime had to be on edge. It was an iffy, tiny signal but repeated. When I opened...

    After Work Luck!

Dang is it getting dark quick around here (MI). I decided to try a spot I haven't hunted for probably six years. The last time I hunted I remember things being very slim. It was an old park, then a scout camp. I headed west in a straight line and soon came across a nice deep wheat. Went another...

Someone Posted about the SEF 6x8 coil vs the Pro Coil depth...

I cannot find the post anymore, but I remember that the title said the SEF 6x8" coil air tested as deep as the Pro coil. Can anyone confirm this? That sounded too good to be true to me. If it is, I will most likely want one. How is this SEF on weight compared to the Pro coil? Thanks - BF

    Back to that field...

Went back to find that the farmer had plowed! I covered the area again this time with the Pro coil. There was not too much non-conductive to detect but I did find three more store cards and a couple buttons! This makes a total of seven store cards from this one small spot. The top one only gave...

A Great Day In The Field

It was a day of good luck. It started when the farmer was actually home at 8:00 AM. It was indeed his field and permission was granted. The spot was one of those where the house was gone long before the modern trash, so most everything was old. Every pass seemed to have something interesting...

Back to the old school site...

I spent too long driving around and not getting permission. Finally about noon, I returned to the school site that I hunted a few weeks ago. The owners said go ahead and have fun! It was a slow start until I dug two mercs in one hole! May be a first for me. Then about ten feet further I dug two...

    Hunted with NealNoIN...

It is always great to get together with Neal! There was nobody home at the place we hoped to hunt.. so we ended up knocking on doors. The first house gave up my rosy and a few wheats. Next we struck out a couple times and finally ended up at another private residence. That is where I found the...

    Had some luck Sunday...

Asked two places and got in both - can't beat that. The first spot netted a few wheats and the bashed up IH. The second place was more productive. I ended up with about eight wheats and this stuff. The token has the same thing on the other side, never saw one like this before. I'm wondering if...

Best hunt of the year for me!

I was roaming a neighboring town when I drove by a vacant lot in the old section. A closer look and heck, there was an old hand pump in the rear of the lot. I asked the owner and he said go ahead but I doubt you will find much ( I love it when they say that.) He said that an old house was there...

    Threshold Adjustment....

Forgive me if this has been covered before. I have been too busy with a side job to keep up on the forum. I read an article in W&E Treasure magazine where the author talked about adjusting the threshold up to 7 on an XS. He also "dropped fast and deep". He was saying how much difference these...

Tons of permission and a couple keepers...

Saturday I called two landowners to hunt old houses - first guy knew me from when I had the old WWII Jeep. Two permissions in a row! Then the weather forecast said rain all day Sunday. It was just a drizzle so I headed out to the first house. Not a lot of goodies found, but while hunting, the...

    Finally got out...

There was a half inch crust of frozen dirt, but that went away within an hour or so. Man it felt good to swing the Explorer again. The first keeper I dug was a tiny petal bell (sleigh bell). I was hunting in a corn stubble field that had a house (on the 1873 maps), but no one around could...

Would someone look up this Dix Token Please?

Hello, My buddy Matt's dad found this token in a drawer he was cleaning out. I guess he said they got it in change at one time - then tossed it in the drawer. It is in nice shape. The front reads: The Flag Of Our Union, Back: If Anybody Attempts To Tear It Down, Shoot Him On The Spot. (a quote...

I finally got into a school site...

... that I have driven past a hundred times and knocked quite a few times. The family (owners) is really nice and the son lives in the old school house. I finally caught him home Sunday. He had no problem with me detecting. I was surprised to start finding clad right away. The soil is sandy and...

    Silver Ring...

I did some curb hunting and came up with this ring marked 925 Mexico. It is a thick one with what I thought was piano keys but on closer examination is just a pattern, I think. Also dug four wheats and clad, went to a park and dug one wheat (should have stayed on the curbs). It was fun to get...

    Got a few keepers...

Spent the afternoon detecting an old farm house built in 1864. The two tokens made my day - both are new to me. The store card is a little odd... never found one with a date of 1864 mine are all 1863's. Any info on the rarity of the store card would be appreciated. The little pin car is cool -...

    1864 with L Indian Head

Hit a well worked park yesterday, only found two IH's. This is my first 1864 L Indian (10 years detecting) but sadly someone beat the L out of it way back when. Had to tip the coins a bit to get more detail from the scan. Anyway the coin has full Liberty and a bold L. Oh well, it was a fun day...

    Four Indian Heads...

I got an email from my buddy Neal early Sunday. He was headed up my way to detect and I was invited. Sounded much better than the car washing day I had planned. It was a long hot hunt but I ended up with these four nice IH plus four wheats, a bus token, thimble and clad. Nice to get out...

    Found a patrotic token!

An 1863 and in great shape. I wonder if maybe I did the rim damage carrying it in my pouch with the other coins. It came from a private residence where I also found six Indian Head cents, a merc, six wheats and a cool pin that is shaped like a flag and says "We Do In Kalamazoo" with a celery...
