    Had fun hunting with Neal...

Met up with my buddy Neal. We did some door knocking. First old farm house, the lady looked mad and scared to see the two of us. I told her our hobby and asked if we could detect her front yard. Still looking mad and scared, she said yea go ahead! Then she added that she had just gotten off work...

Got a few more keepers out of the field...

I hunted the same field as last weekend. Pickin's were slim but I managed to find this stuff. That is a horse bridle rosette, 1864 two cent piece and two buttons. Anybody know if the anchor one is military? Both shanks are missing from the buttons. No back mark on the big one. The anchor one is...

    G2 Probe Question...

Hello, I'm thinking of getting a G2, and from reading here, I gathered that the F75 coils will not work on it. Ralph at Sun Ray said he herd that the FX-1 probe might work on the G2. I am doubting that now that I read the F75 coils don't work. Anybody try using a Sun Ray Probe on their G2 or...

The lettering looks funny on the IH I found last weekend...

Check it out in the picture, the lettering looks "outlined" by a thicker slightly offset strike. It is most pronounced on the "United". It does show in "States of America" (note the "O" and "R"). To me it looks like a doubled die, but none are reported for this year. Could it be a loose die...

Getting back into the swing of things...

I was starting to get an attitude toward gaining permission after trying to deal with a couple local businesses. Yesterday, I could not reach the land owner of a couple fields. I decided to head down there anyway and knock on some doors. Lo and behold the gate was open to the fields and...

    What a day!

It ended up being 81 degrees! I actually got to hot hunting in a tee-shirt. I hit an old farm house and ended up with some nice finds. Pictured below is a 1908D barber dime 1903 IH, button, and a bridle rosette (note the tiny anchors?). I also found 24 wheat backs, with a 1911 and a 1913D in the...

Hey Bryce, the link doesn't work...

I noticed that the link to DirtFlipper's post no longer works in: "Permission to detect"...Please read the response forum member "DirtFlipper" made (happy face). Just a FYI. HH - BF

    Finally got out...

I went back to the place I hunted the last two times. It's an old home site. No real oldies this time. My first dig was a huge braided sterling silver ring. It must have weighed an ounce or more. The owner and his mother stopped by, and when I showed him the ring he said to his mom, "Remember...

I wonder what's on the ML drawing boards...

Wouldn't it be great if they were actually working on a light weight waterproof version of the Explorer. Sort of a ML version of the new Garret AT-Pro. Man that would sell like hotcakes. That is my wish - Light weight and waterproof. What would your wish for a new ML machine be? (no wishing...

Better Late Than Never - 2010 Finds!

I did a big scan of my coin finds from 2010. It was a great year! Two trips to the token house with Neal really put a bunch of tokens in there. Look I found a small cache, har har! What a great hobby. HH - BF

    First Hunt Of 2011!

Not ideal conditions but most of the ground was thawed. Of course I was busy when the weather got to 50 deg. for a couple days. It was 25 deg. with an increasing wind. I did stay warm for about 2.5 hours. I went back to finish up the last place I hunted in the fall - remember that pretty 2...

    Had a fun short hunt!

I got permission to hunt a lot with a trailer on it that use to have an old 1870's house. I don't think it was hunted before since I was busy digging all the time. Ended up with 18 wheat backs, a 1964d quarter, '52 rosy, a 20 Centavos (thought it was a large cent at first), clad and this super...

Tell me about your SE and deep iron signals...

I know most folks have heard my story of not liking the way my SE hit on deep iron. Here is the problem I had: A square nail at 8 to 10" sounded just like a coin at the same depth (initially and at 90 deg.). On my Explorer II, 97% of those targets would null out once I swept the target at 90...

    1-1/2 Cents in Modified Money...

I hit a few spots where old residences were at one time, in corn fields. Unfortunately I am pretty sure all the spots had been hunted hard before. The first spot only gave up these modified large cents (no date and 1830). Even the non-ferrous junk was missing. Both of the LC's really sounded...

    Two Tokens!

Man it was cold with the wind yesterday! I hunted a corn field site that the 1863 maps show a residence, but the 1872 maps don't show it. It was a nice "clean" hunt. The only modern trash I dug was a stinkin' Lincoln! There were not many non-ferrous signals but I did manage a patriotic token and...

Generosity Bites Me In the ...

I have a good relationship with a land-baron farmer around here. Over the years I have been generous sharing finds, and last year I even gave him a nice large cent and civil war buttons. He was very thankful. He did mention a couple times that his one son would like the coins. Well, I talked to...

Found some goodies after the potato harvest!

I re-hunted the field that gave up a bunch of CW tokens and buttons last year. There were still some goodies after the third time hunting this spot. Lots of iron. The top item is a Patriotic Token (like a store card but with a patriotic theme - Both Sides Shown). I also found three Civil War...

    Had another good field hunt...

I met up with Neal and Mike at the ghost town we hit last weekend. For me it was slow with only three coins dug all day. Neal on the other hand had a handful of goodies by the end of the day. Mike got a couple more than me. We all had a good time and only got rained on for a short time. Pictured...

    Sunday's Field Hunts

Neal and I hooked up and hit some fields. The first one had very little iron, but did have two keepers and spoons, buttons and some aluminum trash. Neal started off the day by finding a large cent in the first five minutes! I headed deeper into the field and was not finding anything good until I...

Ever Notice This About Larger Coils...

I am a Stealth X8 (8") coil guy most of the time because of trashy sites and it's light weight. Since I got the Minelab Pro coil, I have noticed a few times now that it seems to pick out coins among the junk great. It seems to get stuff my X8 missed. My theory is that the Pro coil hits harder...
