My Great, great, great Grandparents might have lost these...

Happy New Year Everyone. Yesterday was the last hunt of the year. I had cleaned and cataloged all my coins earlier in the month but the foot of snow we got melted and the weather continues to leave the ground unfrozen. A couple-three weeks ago my father came through town and we went to the...

    Got out again today...

Weather is holding, a little colder today, ended up leaving just as the soil was refreezing, and my fingers weren't working so well. I was going to head to where I detected yesterday, but upon driving through a town on the way I saw that an old house had been torn down. Started detecting that...

Snow is gone, ground is thawed.....

Hello everyone, Thought the season was over a couple of weeks ago but no. Right now conditions are perfect. Ground is nice and wet, snow packed down all the plant material- don't think they will be growing back any time soon. This is the first year that I haven't found an LC with the...

    I can see the ground!!!

It warmed up here recently and much of the foot of snow we got a couple of weeks ago is disappearing. Still a few more days in the fourties expected. Could it mean? I spent the last warm spell insulating the attic and doing other end of the year tasks- think that I might actually have some...

James N.D. Did it get warm enough to detect up your way?

We still have a foot of snow on the ground. Temp is supposed to nudge above 40 for a couple of days. I don't think that it will be enough. On the plus side don't think the ground had a chance to freeze deep with the snow cover. Chris

Let the tumbling and sorting begin...

Hey everyone, We got over a foot of snow last night so I suspect the season is over. Was hoping to hit a few favorite spots before freeze up. Perhaps do a bit more research this winter. Looking forward to everyone posting their season totals. Chris

    1918-D SLQ and Friends

I've been lusting after one of my neighbors lawns for quite some time. Yesterday saw him out raking and secured permission. Headed over early afternoon. Perfect conditions- lawn just mowed and raked, moisture perfect. Didn't go more than a foot and got a very pretty hit. I usually just dig...

    Today's finds

Hello All, An ok day. Seated dime for the grand slam would have been nice. I went out to play in the dirt this afternoon. Went back to some old haunts and got permission at another. Guess which IH came out of the clay soil common where I used to live. The reverse on this one is quite nice...

    Today's Goodies,

[attachment 37818 2006-10-14.jpg] Actually a couple of them are from yesterday. Got permission to hunt a couple of yards and managed to weasel these out from all the nails. Perhaps should go back with the 8". One of the yards was bigger and part of an older house. Might try the WOT there...

    1909-S.....

Indian Head!!! Hello All, I haven't been posting, or detecting much at all this summer and fall between too much work and dry conditions. However, we've had plenty of rain lately and I just finished up a big project so will have some free time in the next couple of weeks. Snuck out for a...

General Ray, I guess I won't try look you up in New Glarus?

I don't get on this forum that often but am guessing you moved south a couple of notches. Did you run out of detecting spots in SW Wisconsin or moved for other reasons? Chris

    Big Silver and semi-key wheat

Hello All, It's been another dry summer until the last couple of days. I've pretty much limited my detecting to construction sites, with less than spectacular results. They are doing the street in front of my house; tearing out the old interurban tracks. I've been waiting for this all year...

    Seven Silver Day...

Thought I would go for double digits but the mosquitos persuaded me to leave some in the ground. Been working a road construction site again. Typical of in town detecting, lots of trash, lots of electical noise. Pull a few silver, a IH or two, hand full of wheats each time I go. Nothing old...

Anyone from Eastern CT, or RI....

Want to play in the dirt next week? I've got to do some work out that way and am packing the explorer. Hopefully will have time to detect. Would love to find something pre 1800. Chris

General Ray, Had a burger in New Glarus today...

Ray, The girlfriend and I were taking the back roads through Rock and Green counties, ended up in your neck of the woods. Stopped at the Sportsman Bar and Grill. Asked if anyone knew you and the bartender said she thought she knew who you were. That's a pretty little town. Chris

    A nice pair of knockers....

Hi all, Last year I got my first Type I SLQ just a few houses down the block, today I got my second. Both are 1917 no mint mark, but in quite nice shape. Any time you dig an early SLQ with a date is a good thing, got my pile of no date slugs. For some reason my good ones are all 1917s...

    First Seated of 2006

Hello All, No camera so no pic. Went back to some of my old haunts while the grass is short and ground wet. A couple of days ago pulled a 1895-S Barber Quarter, 1930 SLQ, couple of mercs, couple of IHs and thirty wheats from one of them. Went back today and got a 1891 seated dime pretty...

Hmm.... Santa Claus is working on my wish.

A while ago there was a wish list for Minelab. I didn't post mine but it was a detector that can deal with high EMI areas and still run at a decent sensitivities. I spent alot of time detecting in town along terraces under powerlines this summer and could only run in the teens in most places...

Nothing too exciting, but it's January in Wisconsin

Hey All, I've got out a few times this winter. Unbelievable weather and this would be a great time to hit those hard pounded spots. Instead I just trolled up one of the local terraces. Power lines overhead kept sensitivity down in the 15-18 range so not many oldies came up. One of the...
