    Environmental seal deteriorating...

I sent my F-75 for the seal upgrade this winter. I was using it yesterday and noticed that it looked like the gasket they installed between the control box halves had a zillion little cracks in it all the way around. Basically looked like rubber deteriorating. Hopefully this is only happening...

    Large Cent drought over....

Hello all, I also posted this on the explorer forum. But I found this first with the F-75 with the small coil so it should go here too. I haven't found an LC for a couple of years. Last year was the first that I found neither seated or a Large Cent. (Did find a bunch of key dates; that...

    Large Cent drought has ended

Hello all, I haven't found an LC for a couple of years. Last year was the first that I found neither seated or a Large Cent. (Did find a bunch of key dates; that helped) Seemed to be a disturbing trend that good hunting spots were drying up. This year I've got three seated dimes. (And more...

SE Pro coil on XS; cord too short!!???

Anybody out there using the new Pro coil on an original explorer XS? I know they have changed the design of the rods on the newer models. I've got the coil part of the cord right at the very top of the lower rod and when I push the cord in the slot it is an inch or two too short to feed out...

Copper arrow point- need opinions- is this a trade or copper culture point?

Hello All, I spent yesterday driving around the county up here in Minnesota with my old plat books. Checked out some old church and school sites. Ground is getting a little to dry for digging, and the deer flies and mosquitos are pretty bad. Deer flies bother you a lot less with head phones...

    Thin Dimes

Hello, While I was digging out my records to check on the Grand Slam stats I happened to pick up a roll of barber dimes. The tube appeared to only be 75 percent full, thought that perhaps I had miscounted. But no. All 50 there. I compared that against rolls of Mercs and Roosie's. They were...

There must be 16 ways to miss a Grand Slam:nopity:

And as of today I've accomplished 15 of them..... You can not find any silver at all. Or you can only find a Roosie. Or only a Merc. Or a Merc and a Roosie Etc. Etc. Or find Seated, Barber, Merc but no Roosie. And then the Grand Slam. I've done the Seated, Barber, Merc, no Roosie on...

CC, semi key, and IH three......

They are doing more road construction a couple of blocks over and today I kept swinging until I found enough to make a rhyme. When I first arrived saw a couple of other detectorists. We chatted a bit and found we knew some people in common. They had found an IH and a few wheats. Not sure if...

    Screwence P. Driver. 2002-2008. RIP

I suppose I could write a poem or put together a slide show with lots of soft fade ins, but this was a no nonsense work-horse screwdriver and wouldn't go for that flu-flu BS. Lots of callouses and a few Rics over the years. Memories. [attachment 89538 2008-05-021.jpg] She did rescue this...

Extremely efficient GRAND SLAM, glad to finally meet you FDR.

Hello All, Beautiful day out today, made it into the seventies with a strong southernly breeze. Went to one of my favorite sites. I had been over here a couple of times earlier this year with my new other detector; trying to find what the Explorer left behind. It wasn't exactly making the...

    Spring thaw Barbers....

Hello All, We had a January thaw that I got out and detected in. Now in the middle of the spring thaw, lots of areas are still frozen but soft ground here and there. But we are due for 4-7 inches of snow again tonight. Did some terrace trolling again. Managed a couple of barber dimes; 1912...

    MineLab Service Outstanding.....

Bought my XS Oct. of 2001. Used it at least once or twice in the following years:lol:. I did fix some coil, headphone jack, etc. issues over the years. Finally had my stock coil cable go bad and sent it in to LV to see what they would do. I darn near got a whole new detector out of the deal...

Anybody had the environmental sealing upgrade on their F-75...

I just sent my F-75 in to get the split in the foam handle replaced. Pondering on the $50 for the sealing; anybody have an educated opinion? Chris

After a foot a snow tonight spring will be here next week....

I know because I just sent both of my detectors in for repair. Feeling pretty naked right now. I could try put my 1979 Compass Coin Magnum back together. Chris

    More January thaw finds....

Not the exactly the finds that would merit a picture/post during the normal hunting season. But in January in Wisconsin? At least it is something to inspire/torment those farther north. The button is an Odd Fellows insignia. [attachment 78298 Picture036.jpg] Might still be a day or two...

My turn at 2008 January thaw finds.....

Hello one and all, We've also had some unseasonably warm weather here the last few days. I've been busy with work and diligently trying to ignore the fact that the ground had thawed. Had a servo drive blow up and is on back order so decided to go play in the dirt today. Snowing and sleeting...

Survey- When does the ground freeze in your neck of the woods?

I just pulled my detecting records for the past few years, and a couple from 1978 and 80 when I was a kid in Minnesota. Looked like in Southwest MN back then I could get out beginning/mid April and was done by the first week of November. Whether the fall date was due to freeze up or just too...

Ground is frozen; year is over.....

Well, Last year was the first with no Large Cents found; this year no Large Cents and no seated either. Memories of the good days: 2004 seated minus one half dime. [attachment 74434 2004seated.jpg] 2003's finds [attachment 74435 seatedgroup.jpg] And perhaps lowest coin counts only 70 some...

    A few F-75 finds...

Hello all, Been swinging the F-75 for a couple of months. Not as much as I would like. Too dry here right now but hopefully get some rain this Monday, then I will detect until freeze up. [attachment 72719 110607F75.jpg] Many more wheats but the one shown is a 1924-D semi-key. Got these...
