Cut silver (no clue!), buckle and pre-CW Great Seal button

Thank you! Yeah, in hindsight, I wish I hadn't tried to wet-clean it. Most of the time it works well for me, but not this time.

Cut silver (no clue!), buckle and pre-CW Great Seal button

Today's short lunch hunt was exciting for me! I dug a nice Great Seal button (prior to cleaning, anyway) from L Hayden & Scovill which, per my literature, dates between 1811 and 1827. A first for me! Then the fancy buckle was fun to find. But this piece of cut silver... I'm assuming it's...

Buttons! One ID'd and one needs to be

Found a few buttons today, so I present the best and then the unidentified. Does anyone recognize the few, poor details in these photos? (Not the gold gifted button)

    Colonial farm permission fun!

No! I've asked, researched, etc., nothing! Not even speculation. One of the local historical clubs has meetings where they will help i.d. finds and I'll engage them next opportunity. It's definitely a strange one!

UPDATE: Pocket watch, re: Centuries-old farm finds

In my earlier subject post, I'd shown a pocket watch that I found. A few suggested that it might not be plated, so I took the watch to a jeweler to get it evaluated. The verdict: it is 10k gold. The jeweler estimates the gold content to be ~3/4 ounce. While there is some modest monetary value...

    Centuries-old farm finds

Thanks! Equinox 900. I go slow, but low is tough. The fields are overgrown! But I work at it and try to hit low spots meticulously. I think once winter sets in, the grasses will fall and I'll have better hunting.

I intend to find out! I'll update when I find out!

    Centuries-old farm finds

Jeff, it appears to not be plated. The scratches on the back are the same color as the surface metal. I would expect the base metal color to show in the scratches. I'm going to ask a jeweler for an opinion.

    Centuries-old farm finds

I spent several hours searching a now-defunct farm that dates back to at least 1755. I was fortunate to walk away some nice finds spanning a few centuries. The pocket watch was funny coming out of the hole. I thought it was a beer can bottom at first, but it clearly wasn't! No idea of the...

    Colonial farm permission fun!

I'm going to work on finding out more about it. "Patent" on a coin just doesn't make sense (cents? 😂). I'm here all day... try the veal. Is this thing on?

Same here! Doesn't hurt that it's my oldest and nicest IHP, too LOL

    Colonial farm permission fun!

Patience and convincing, yet assuring tact helped, too. Somewhere along the way I learned how to mindful of the landowners and not make it so much about my access, but try to just pique their interest. Makes it fun, too. 🤷‍♂️

    Colonial farm permission fun!

There's a lot of potential for good finds for sure. There are two fields where the old Colonial home sat that are covered by knee-high grass. I've offered to mow it, but the property caretaker hasn't bitten yet. Might just have to wait for the grass to wilt in the winter. There's woods that...

    Colonial farm permission fun!

This particular permission I thought could only be a pipe dream... until it wasn't. The landowner was impressed that I tracked him down and contacted him at his permanent residence in Hawaii for permission to hunt his Colonial-era farm property in Virginia. Not only did he give permission, but...
