VibraProbe 570 doesn't like my Cortes, Vaquero, CZ-20.

All three detectors chatter loud up to 4 feet away from the probe. And the probe takes a full minute to shut itself off, that means I have to wait one minute to start swinging again after using it. Big interference problems, this probe sucks.

I love the 3 x 18 inch coil for jewelry

Great in larger parks. It's the only coil I use in Tot lots for really fast coverage. A lot of jewelry was lost during the past several years and is still shallow. Finds coins and rings down to 4 inches deep. Have one for my Vaquero and one for the Cortes. The depth ID shows deeper so I inore...

    Did ground balance test

Ground balanced my Vaquero in a park that has soft and mild soil. Located some targets, some gave weak signals, some targets gave a little stronger signal. With machine ground balanced properly I noted the signal strength of targets. Then I turned the GB knob fully counter clockwise so that I...

Have a Cortes and Vaquero. Is the CZ-3D deeper for coins.

Search in Jersey parks. The soil is mild and soft and man the coins sink deep. Jabbo

Tried my CZ-20 in a local park for deep coins.

It's my Jersey shore beach machine, works great in the wet salt sand. Used it today in a local 300 acre park that has mild soil, hoping to find any deep coins that my Tesoro couldn't get. Passed up the shallow signals. Got a lot of one-way signals (left to right) that I thought might be deep...

    NiMH batteries care

PRO: Steady voltage throughout discharge cycle, no "memory effect". CON: Shelf discharge rate higher than Ni-Cad batteries. TIP: Keep NiMH batteries on charger when not in use.

Pulltabs and Pop tops. What are Pop tops.

I posted this question on the Garrett forum. We know Pull tabs have the tail. But Pop tops seem to be different things to different people.

Compared the umax 3 x 18 CleanSweep coil to 3 x 18 High Output Technology coil

Air tested the umax coil on my Cortes and the High Output coil on my Vaquero. The High Output coil on the Vaquero is a whole lot more sensitive to small coins and rings. The High Output air tested a thin gold wedding band at 7 inches and the umax at 5.5 inches, both still giving a decent signal...

    Update on gold chain found.

Posted this photo on Saturday May 3rd when I found this 22 inch 18k heavy chain. Jewelry store confirmed 18k. She compared it to similar chains in her catalog and priced it at $1600.00 retail. My most valuable single find ever, so far. My hunting buddy loves finding gold chains and is good at...

Cortes finds another gold this weekend.

Yesterday the chain. Today I went to a high school that I found using Google maps ( satellite ) . Parked in the lot near the ball field and the third signal was this beautiful 14k ruby ring, down about 3 - 4 inches. It looks like an older style ring. Fits my pinky so it's probably a boys ring. I...

    Found gold chain today

Found outside the fence of a ball field at a high school. 22 inches long, 1.25 ounce. The only marking I can see is 75 or maybe 751 on the clasp, don't know what it means. When I got the beep I looked at the spot to pinpoint and saw about one inch of the chain still above ground in the grass...

    Cortes Sum Mode tones.

Did an air test today and discovered that each BAR has its own audio pitch in SUM mode. Haven't been using the SUM mode since I got the machine. During todays air test I noticed that the IRON and FOIL bars give the lowest pitch, 5 cent bar gives a higher tone pitch, round tab bar is higher...

Cortes meter ID and coil size

Interesting all metal mode air test. The 5.75 concentric coil correctly ID's a copper wheat penny at 5 inches max. At 6 inches with the 5.75, the screen remains blank or shows jumping ID. The 9 x 8 concentric coil and the 8.5 inch widescan correctly ID's the penny at 6 inches max. At 7 inches...

    Nice ladies gold ring

but it's only 10K, stone is purple, two small diamonds. Found it at a 1960's school. Went there today with Dave, my detecting buddy. In the past he found some early 1800's pennies there but we found nothing old today. So I wandered over to the tot lot and got just one signal, this ring. No other...

Relic mode. Jewelry mode. Coin mode.

When selecting one of these modes, is the detector simply using programmed notches. If so, seems like the Custom mode can be set-up to duplicate the notches. I don't have a Garrett, just trying to learn what the modes actually do. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Dug this copper sheet metal piece in a school yard yesterday.

Much thinner than a coin, a hair bigger than a penny. Gave a smooth weakish signal. Dug a plug, went down 2 more inches to 6 inches, removed dirt with hand. Checked the hole with detector, target is deeper yet. Went down another inch , removed dirt with hand, checked hole with detector, still...

A small nail laying directly on top of a silver dime doesn't

mask the dime, the signal is strong and smooth in discriminate mode. But raise the nail 2 - 3 inches and the signal is short and broken.

Anybody had any problems with Midwest Refineries?

My detecting partner sent two gold chains and a few rings to them this month when gold was $900 per ounce and still going up. He was paid a lot less than he expected. He called Gary at Midwest and was told one of the two chains is not gold. Any rejected jewelry is not retuned to the sender, so...
