Local park gives up two NJ coppers in 2 days

This corner of the park had an old house there years ago, now gone. One coin is slightly bigger than the other and some details are different, looks like 2 varieties. Never found any silver, IH pennies, or other old coins there, just modern coins, wheaties, and deep relics such as buckles...

Golden Umax finds 1787 NJ copper

Research on a park in my NJ town told me an old house was once there, maybe a farm. Dug lots of deep nails and some interesting old metal things there in the past, but no older coins, no silver. This coin was near where the house was and finding it tells me more about the age of the place. Was...

Older Golden Umax vs. newer model. Does anyone

know what the differences are. The older Golden has a round speaker, newer model has a square speaker. I have the older one, really like it, mostly for the tones.

Why do we find so many old belt buckles,

did they all fall off belts many years ago. I never heard anyone these days say the buckle fell off my belt.

Dug some trash, covered the hole then put the piece of trash

on the ground and it gave a lower meter reading. On the next target I stuck my digger into the ground and pryed the soil up to loosen it a little to see if I can break up any halo. When I swept the coil over the target again the meter changed to a lower reading. Maybe purer metals like gold...

Had my Golden about 1 year now

but used it only a few times, always grabbed the Cortes. This week did some air testing with the Golden then took it to a city park that is loaded with shallow trash, wanted to see how well it can detect coins that are beneath the trash with 8x9 coil. The detector did great. I didn't dig every...

Was searching in the woods Sunday. Found a tick

on me Wednesday. Tried tweezers but was afraid to crush it. Tied a piece of string around it and was able to maintain a steady pull for 4-5 minutes till it came out intact and alive. Saved it in a small plastic bag, put it in the freezer in case I get any symptoms.

Small, easy to make folding root cutter

Folded length is just 4", light weight, fits in pouch. Root cutter blades are hard to keep sharp, so just change the blade when it gets dull. The blades I have at my work bench are 3.5" end to end so that is what I used. I haven't tried it yet but it looks like it will work for roots up to maybe...

Garrett ProPointer gave me a problem on my first search with it.

After one hour the speaker volume dropped way down to barely audible. Thought the battery was going, vibe still worked. When I got back to the car I noticed the two speaker slits were packed solid with dirt. When I got home I cleaned them out and the volume was good again. I covered the slits...

    Ear phone pads badly cracked?

The pads on my Killer B's were cracking so I added leather to the pad face. Easy to do if you just cover up the face of the pad as seen in the photo. Double stick tape was used, contact cement will work too. Leather handbags can be bought at garage sales for about $1 each. Hard to see in the...

    Question for Golden users

My Golden with 8x9 coil will go from low tone to high tone 5" max on a dime in air tests and a quarter 6" max. Beyond that the tone remains low. I used a nail to return to low tone each time before sweeping over the coins again. Example, a dime at 6" would remain low tone and not change...

Use a plastic screw on the coil ears to prevent false signals

when the coil is bumped. Spider coils are not bad, but solid coils are thin plastic and they flex at the ears when the coil is bumped and if the screw is metal.

Olive Oil helped my dry cracked finger tips

For 30 years I suffered with painful split finger tips (on my right hand) and dry rough hands during the cold winter months. This winter I had no problem just by comsuming at least 6 tablespoons of olive oil daily (not the virgin type, too strong tasting). I started taking it for Ecxema, it...

Was a good day in the woods.

Spent 1.5 hours with my Cortes in a small wooded area today. Got a shallow coin signal, kicked away the leaves, saw the 1941 Merc laying right on top of the ground. Then another shallow coin signal, a 1909 Barber quarter about 1 - 2 inches down. Then 3 inches from a small tree a 1919 Merc about...

Learn more about your detector with a cardboard box

Cut long slits spaced 1 inch apart. Stick a coin in a slit to test signal strength at any depth. Add a piece of trash in another slit and see if your detector still reacts to the coin. Sweep the coil almost touching the box top. Picture shows a quarter and a tab.

    Golden uMax coils comparison

Air tested a mans medium weight 14k gold wedding band and a Mercury dime for maximum depth and for max tone ID depth. Audio loudness was good, not whisper signals. Disc at 0, Sens set past 10 (at end of orange strip). Concentric coils except for 8"DD and 3x18". All the coils did better on the...

Went to the Jersey shore at Ocean Grove

After the storm, dug up sinkers, small copper nails, bits of other metal, a buffalo nickle, modern coins and just one gold ear ring. Everybody always said there is a lot of gold jewelry in the water. How can those heavy sinkers get washed up and almost no gold to be found. Talked to two others...

    F/S CZ-20

with 10 inch coil, coil cover, belt clip, and manual. $425 shipped UPS. Works excellent, never had any problems with it. Will be using my CZ-7a when ever I go to the beach, not as heavy, don't have to belt mount it. Postal money order only. Jabbo

Does the ID Edge ground balance in both modes?

I bought one last summer but I keep grabbing my Cortes. Maybe I would find the deeper silver with the Edge searching in Disc mode. Cortes has preset GB in Disc mode and gets coins 6" deep for sure. The soil in my area seems to be mild.

Another way to do a masking test.

My back yard is loaded with iron signals. I detected an iron object that has no other signals near it, pinpointed it and put a stone on it to mark the spot. Then I measured 6" from the stone and pounded a rod down to make a small hole 5" deep. Dropped a copper penny in and tamped it down and...
