    8x9" coil vs 3x18" coverage

With the 18" coil being 2 times the length of the 8x9 it seems like we are getting 2 times the coverage. A little calculation shows not 2 times more, but only 1.5 times. Considering both coils are held 1.25" above the ground when sweeping. If both coils penetrated the soil to the same depth then...

Another Barber dime from the woods

The woods produces silver every time I go, at least so far. This is the total silver from 5 hunts in that wooded area, it sure beats the parks. The 2 seated dimes were posted a few days ago when I found them. Yesterday found the mans silver ring, no coins. Today found the 1905 barber dime, no...

Took my Golden uMax to a park Sunday

Spent 1 hour looking for ladies gold rings. Used the Narrow Notch, had it set up to reject all pulltabs including those pesky broken-off tails. Dug only 1 pulltab, but the foil gave me problems. Can't eliminate foil without eliminating the rings. Dug 30 pieces of foil and quit for the time...

Found an old pocket spill today

in the woods. Was heading back to my car empty handed when I got a IH penny reading, dug an indian head about 6" deep. Then 15 feet away another IH reading. Dug an IH and a nickle 3 cent piece stuck together. Checked the hole again and heard silver high tone. Retrieved an 1875 seated dime...

Found this large sleigh bell today

near a river in a pre Rev war town. Used the ID Edge with 10" coil. Bell was about 9" deep. Detector said "deep non-ferrous" so I had to check it out. Also found 2 wheats, some bullets and a giant horseshoe that looked like it fell off a Clydesdale. Found these bells before but none were this...

Made a longer handle for my Lesche tool

Handle is now 3.5" longer, should be easier when digging deeper. Gonna remove the red hand grip and buy two bicycle handle bar grips. Made it from scrap steel tubing and aluminum tubing I had laying around. They fit inside each other. Can't drill the original steel handle, hardened steel, so I...

    My most unusual find

Last summer I was detecting in 15" shallow water in a local river hoping to find any Rev war relics. The troops were camped just 3 miles away. Got a fairly big signal, reached into the water and picked up a home made Christian cross someone made from two thin pieces of wood, was about 12" long...

ID EDGE - Anybody use the 10.5" coil? Is it deeper

on dimes than the 8". I might get the 10.5" for my Edge, hope it goes deeper on coins and works as well as the 8".

Put a mixture of my finds in a picture frame

Looks really nice on the wall. Found the frame in the cellar, is kind of small, only 10x12". Have more nice finds to show if only I can find a spot for another frame where my wife has her Elvis collection, or maybe I can replace this frame with a larger one. Top row has two 2 cents, quarters &...

Off subject but good to know

Take your car keys to bed with you and hit the panic button if someone is breaking into your home or your car.

EMI interference cure is discussed on Fisher F series forum

Some claim that a $5 Radio Shack choke that snaps onto the coil cable helped somewhat with their EMI problem caused by power lines, etc. If you want to read the thread go to Fisher F series forum, see EMI cure for the F series on the first or second page. I'm going to get one and try it.

    Removing coil covers

A method I've been using on both my spider and solid covers gets the job done without damage to the cover. Using a small block of wood and a small hammer. Tap,tap, tap the block lightly all around the edge of the cover. It moves a little by little. Works every time.

We never see well worn coins in

our pocket change today. In the 1950's they were very common. Today, every coin looks like it was minted yesterday.

ID Edge runs nicely on one 9V battery

Detector works normally with either of the two. Seems to me the 2nd one is there to double the time between battery changes. Good to know only one spare is needed.

    f/s ID EDGE

Clean, very nice condition. 8" coil with cover and owners manual. 6.25 khz, auto ground balance, 4 tone audio, uses two 9V batteries. Postal money order $275 includes shipping in lower 48. No trades. Dave

Many say to send a detector back to Tesoro for retuning when adding a new coil. Huh!

This theory doesn't make any sense. Tesoro makes several coils for each detector, we expect any of the coils to work well. I share coils ( 8x9, 7" and 5.75" concentrics, 3x18 cleansweep, 8" widescan, 8" brown donut) between my Cortes and Golden. Never sent back anything for retuning and all...

Garrett Propointer is more sensitive to edge of coin

from the side of the barrell than at the tip of the barrell. I layed a dime on the edge of a cardboard box and moved the Propointer barrell downward close to the dime. Didn't get a buzz until the tip was 1"past the dime. Hope others will do this test to see if they get the same results. If so...

    Tesoros beep. Fishers ping.

I was digging deep soda cans while using my ID Edge thinking they were shallow coins. When I got home I air tested my Cortes, Golden, ID Edge, and CZ7aPro over a soda can and an Indian head penny using zero discrimination. The Tesoros gave a very large beep over the can and a short beep over the...
