Here's one great looking Hibernia copper

I can hardly believe it, no pitting anywhere on this 1723 coin, wish all large pennies came out of the ground looking this good. There is a harp next to the seated liberty. Also found this John Lauson Co. Frost King Gasoline Engine medal. Both were found in an old crop field, plus a few wheaties.

    Silver from a corn field?

It's very rare for me to find silver in crop fields. Today was one of those rare days. Found the quarter within 2 or 3 minutes then found the no-date buffalo nickle but the corn stalks were 12" high. Too hard to swing the coil, stayed only 15 minutes. The dime was found in the woods 2 days ago...

Was in the woods. Thought this was only an Indian Head cent.

But to my surprise it turned out to be a Flying Eagle cent, 1857. Shows a lot of wear, was in circulation a long time, but no corrosion, the soil was good to it. This is only my second one since I started detecting in the 1970's and so this penny is a very rare find for me. The old bicycle horn...

I almost never find silver in corn fields/bean fields

99.5% of the coins I dig up in crop fields are pennies. Mostly King Georges followed by U.S large pennies and only occasionally an IH. Problem is copper coins get pitted real bad and most are barely identifiable/not identifiable. Today I got a solid dime signal at the edge of a corn field...

Not much to show but we know you guys who are still snowed in

like to see whats being found while you're waiting to get out. Today, I tested the soil in my back yard with a screw driver. It was soft, I grabbed my detector, hopped in my car and headed straight for the woods. Today was my first time out in about a week because of snow. After 1 hour of...

Seated dime laying on the ground

deep in the woods. Got a perfect dime signal, cleared away the leaves with my shoe getting ready to dig, saw this dime and simply picked it up. Didn't clean it, this is exactly how I found it. All the other targets were bullet brass shells and shotgun shells about 4" deep. Last year in this same...

I dug a dime size silver 1788 Carolus III and a dime size silver 1810 Ferdinan VII. Are these half reales? Which silver coins are half reales.

Tried the big big field again

Field about 50 acres belongs to the park. No one goes in that field. All summer the weeds are 3 feet tall, but they cut the weeds in the fall (maybe for the horses) so weeds are short now, like a lawn. Been there about 5 times when the weeds were tall, found only a British colonial penny. Tried...

Fourth silver this week from the woods.

My luck is starting to change in this woods in central Jersey. December 11 I dug up the 1788 Half Real. Dec.12 came out with a silver Washington and 2 Mercs. Today this Seated dime, a toasted IH, and a flat button. Was using the 10 inch coil in a trashy area near the road when I dug up the dime...

    Headphones

You could alter your head phone cushions to let more outside sound in. I made new cushions for these cheap head phones and cut the bottom off to hear my pinpointer better. I did it on my Killer B's too because they were too sound proof. It works.

    Coinstrike users

The next time you get a signal you think is deep iron lift the coil while still swinging. See if the meter numbers go from negative to positive. Also try it over deep nonferrous targets and see how much the meter numbers change. By chance, I tried that yesterday and I saw deep iron numbers...

Found a Carolus III Half Real today. Just as rotten as

the other two half reals I found. Badly worn and dented. Was found in the woods in central Jersey. The last two digits 88 of the date is still visible, so it's 1788. The second photo shows the the thickness of a dime next to the half real. Same diameter as the dime, but half reals were made...

    Found a large cent

and the IH penny in the woods today in central Jersey. The large cent is 1801. The IH is 1870 and in great condition with nice smooth green patina. Strange how the large cent has no pitting in one small area, entire back side is pitted. Nothing else was in the hole except a rusty nail. Seems...

Is the coil power permanently set at maximum sensitivity by the factory?

Does it get reduced when the Sensitivity is lowered? Years ago I heard the coil power is always at maximum sensitivity when in All Metal mode, even when the Sensitivity is lowered. Disc mode too? If the coil power is always at maximum in All Metal and Disc mode then what does the Sensitivity...

    First Barber Half

in the last 25 years. Searched in a corn field today and found only 2 metal buttons in the first 2 hours. Then I saw something near the woods, walked about 150 feet to see what it was and began searching there. Got a good signal in All Metal mode and out popped the half from about 7-8" deep...

    Easy Home made coil cover

My 8" and 10" spider coils kept getting caught on 4" high stuble in a mowed field, first time this field was mowed in 3 years. The 10" coil is shown here. Tried the 8" coil in the field yesterday, cover worked good. Lets me lower the coil 2-3" more. I used a piece of white PVC sheet that was in...

Here's a test we can try.

Wet soil Vs. dry soil. When you detect a deep non ferrous target in wet soil (or dry) don't dig it up but mark the spot and make some notes how your detector reacted. Days or weeks later when the soil is bone dry (or wet) try that same target again to see if your detector reacts differently...

ProPointer easy to do automatic ON - OFF switch

Make an Automatic On-Off switch using a tiny mercury switch. No soldering iron needed and no alteration done to the ProPointer. Just drop the mercury switch into the battery compartment and put the battery back in. The switch must be tiny, it fits vertical along side the battery with room to...

I'm shocked at this weeks luck.

A half dime was on my want list for 40 years. Last Friday I finally found one, 1853. I was on cloud 9 all day. Today, only 3 days later I dig up another half dime, 1854. They were about 1/4 mile apart. Two in 3 days! Can't explain it. Also found a 1860 IH fatty today. HH, Jabbo
