I read here the coil is always in ALL METAL mode

even when you are using DISC mode. Only the audio circuit is affected when you switch to DISC mode, but the coil always stays in ALL METAL mode. I use ALL METAL mode when targets are far apart because it covers a much wider path under the coil.

Made a mini test garden using cat litter.

In my cellar, I stacked a box of clay cat litter on top of a bag of clay cat litter. (I have a cat). The stack measures 7.5" high from the top of the brown cardboard box. Harder to detect coins through the cat litter, meter numbers are a lot lower than air test at 7.5". A silver quarter is under...

Two silver day. First the Seated Dime

and half hour later the Walking Liberty Half. Was shocked, haven't found a Walker in about 30 years. Both found in a cornfield, plus a Sunoco thing, button, and musket ball. The IH penny came from nearby woods. Spent about 2 hours in this cornfield, my first time there. Should be more silver...

    Scrap metal sold

13 pounds of copper and brass stuff I dug up. Got $21 for it from a local scrap metal yard. Next time I will separate the two metals because I learned they pay the lower price metal if its mixed.

Was in the thick woods today

Managed to locate an 1896 Barber quarter and an old something with a sailing ship on it, too big to be a button. Real thick woods, can detect only about 10 per cent of it. Gotta be more stuff there where the out buildings once were. The main house is a historic site, built in 1722. Will try...

Got a nice 1867 two cent piece from the yard of the 1722 house today

Found it at the edge of the huge front yard, the crotal bell came from small back yard. This place was searched out long ago, got no coin signals in the cut grass, dug up only some zincolns and clad dimes. Property is now owned by the county. Will go back soon and search where the tall weeds...

Found 2 old coins in the river

1831 U.S. cent and a well worn no date Spanish half real. Shallow area of Raritan River, only 6" to 18" deep and 250 feet wide, flat red shale bottom, no mud in this fast moving water but the shale is as slippery as ice. Rev war troops crossed here. These coins are pretty much toasted but the...

    1917 SLQ almost perfect shape

Found it in the yard of an abandoned farm today, near the edge of the property, plus a flat button. My first time there. I know the place was searched before because no other coins were found, lots of tall weeds, gotta wait till winter when the weeds die down. Of course I hit it with my digging...

Made my CoinStrike into a temporary shallow water wader

Took the control box off the shaft. Attached a piece of flat Nylon belting to the box. Box hangs from my neck, behind me, between the shoulder blades. Tied the cable cord to my belt behind me to keep the box from shifting when I bend over. Works very well. Tried it today, found a 1925 Merc...

This Indian Head penny stood its ground more than 100 years

Found several days ago 3 feet from the rivers edge. Laying on top of hard red shale almost in plain sight. The river is very shallow and fast moving at that location and the amazing thing is the penny laid there on the shale over 100 years even with the annual fast moving flood water. Has some...

Got out today, its been over a month. My first dig

was a 1798 U.S. large penny. Look hard at the bottom, the date is very visible but lots of corrosion on this coin. Then dug a nice 1936 Merc. A spoon engraved 1930 and an old door bell or something. Felt good to get out and felt even better when I dug these 2 coins. All these were found in the...

Remedy for stretched out headphones cord.

1/4" wide stretch band solved the problem for my streched out cord. Available in sewing section in super markests, Walmart, etc. Snake through coiled cord, tie band tightly to cord at top and bottom, add glue to knots to keep tied ends from slipping. This remedy worked for me.

Got a few keepers this weekend

from a cornfield that gave up nothing before. 1818 large cent in nice condition, 1899 well worn Barber dime, button, musket ball. Added the musket ball to musket ball jar. Farmer is starting to plant crops, will go back in the fall, gotta be more stuff there.

Came out of the woods with no coins but

had two ticks on me. The season already started in NJ.

I added six skeleton keys to the picture frame display, where ever they would fit.

Posting this display again with improvements, thanks to the skeleton keys that were just added. They did a real nice job balancing out the display. Also added labels under the coins and some relics. Had to use a little hot melt glue to hold the keys in place. The small display is keys only...

After more than 8 hours in the crop field today

it was time to call it quits. Came out with a Barber half, a Barber quarter, a toasted large penny, flat buttons, and a clay pipe stem. Member RFJEDI dug a beautiful condition 1734 British penny. We dig very few coins in crop fields, but usually they are oldies.

    Revolutionary War thing?

Stamped Co. D. Has 2 holes at the bottom, something hung from it. Anybody know anything about it. Found in central Jersey, we had British and colonial American troops in this area.

Some of my finds displayed for posterity

I picked up a large picture frame at a garage sale to display some of my finds. Only flat items fit behind the glass. The frame fits between the door frame and my wifes showcase for her Elvis stuff on the right. An assortment of old coins and small relics filled the frame. Any of the two coins...

It seems this dime was calling me.

I walked right up to it, found it within 10 minutes, my first time in that woods. Stayed another 1 1/2 hours and dug only one memorial penny. Went back today and dug a toasted U.S large penny and the silver spoon. Spoon seems to be solid silver, I filed a deep notch in it and didn't see any...

Holy Mackeral, this place is crawling with Hibernia Halfpennies

Found another 1723 Hibernia Halfpenny today, just 3 days after my first. I showed both in this photo so no one thinks I'm posting the same one twice. Also found this 1756 British penny today. Both are in the top row of this photo. They were found within 150 feet of an old cellar hole. Todays...
