Dug some kind of military button

Eagle on a canon. Same diameter as a nickel, about 22 millimeters. Can't see any markings on back and shank is gone. My first military button of this type. Looks like an American style eagle. Found in a crop field with the X-Terra.

Found this copper coin, appears to be a 1720 six Deniers

From the detail that remains I can see a crown and a shield below and what seems to be some of the date above the crown. In the sunlight I can see the 3 things in the shield and the letters DOV behind the bust. I cleaned it rubbing it with my fingers only. Found behind an old house about 3...

Went to a 1700's farm today

Farm property was sold to the county and will become part of Green Acres after the house and barns are torn down. Searched only a small area that is accessible now, was getting several iron signals per sweep. Gotta be more goodies there but the old nails and other junk mask any deeper coins...

    Coil test comparison, FWIW

Bought the X-Terra 705 last week with 7.5khz 9 inch round coil. Also bought a 3khz 9 inch round coil. Did the test in my cellar test garden box, filled with 6.5 inches clay cat litter. The 7.5 kHz coil actually gave a better audio signal than the 3khz coil with a Merc dime under the box. (The...

X-Terra 705 has really small legs under the arm cuff

Tips over too easy. I made better legs out of the blue plastic. This plastic was hard to bend and keep its shape, so had to use a heat gun to make the bends. Can be made of aluminum too. Held in place by the thumb screw that came with the detector. Any detector I ever had needed to have the legs...

Dug up a giant Crotal bell

Didn't know they made them this big. Can't see in photo but a large section is broken off, couldn't find it. Plus a smaller crotal bell and a huge buckle. Found at an old foundation in the woods a good 1/4 mile from the road. Tons of trash there, so couldn't find any coins. Foundation looks to...

Finally got out today after that terrible winter

and dug up two nice Crotal bells in crop fields. One bell is really big and both are in excellent condition. Plus a no date Indian Head penny, old Chinese coin, Canadian penny. The place goes back to the early 1700's but all wooded now and loaded with thorn bushes, can barely swing the coil...

Put a little note inside your pinpointer

battery compartment. "IF FOUND CALL SAM, plus phone number." You just might get it back if you lose it somewhere. Jabbo

    What's wrong with my detector.

Was working fine. But I was playing with the 5 internal pots for several days. Now it only detects a piece of aluminum plate about the size of a coffee can lid no farther than 1 inch away in Disc mode only, won't detect it in All Metal mode. Won't detect anything smaller. It lost 99% of its...

CXII - Just bought it two weeks ago.

Haven't had it outside yet. Has the 8.5" coil. Is better than my Coinstrike when a rusty nail is near coin. (I have a 20 pound bag of non-clumping cat litter to use as a test garden in my cellar.) Would the 4.5" coil do much better where a lot of rusty nails are. The 8.5" coil goes quite deep...

Garrett MH CXII trim pots question

Detector has 5 trim pots inside. Two on front of circuit board, one on side, two at back of circuit board near batteries. I need to know what each of the pots are for. Thanks, Jabbo

    Tape unravels

Sometimes I need to wrap tape around the cable cord somewhere. To keep it from unraveling I wrap strong coat thread around the end of the tape and tie a knot. Tape won't ever unravel.

Back to the 1700's house, more fun

Found more keepers amongst all the trash in the back yard. The 5.75" coil did it. Two Buffalos and a V nickel. Two Barber dimes and a Merc. The mans silver bracelet came from the large front yard, but no old coins, only shallow clad. All the easy coins on this property were dug up many years...

Two good days for a change.

Yesterday and today. Four musket balls, bullet, Boy scout slide, bad condition Barber dime, 1927 Standing Lib Qtr., 1907 & 1909 IH pennies, no detail King George penny, silver earing. Hope to have more days like that. Only the musket balls and bullet were a little deep, in a field. The coins...

    Finds from the 1700's being

donated to Millstone Historical Society. An officer there called me and asked where am I finding the musket balls in the Millstone area. They want to keep records where 1700's military type stuff was found. Said I found them here a there, miles apart, one musket ball at a time, not all in one...

MH CX 2 with analog meter. I'm interested in a detector

with the old style analog meter that the CX 2 has. Is it a fair detector? Not looking for great depth, just another detector to play with. Currently have 2 Coinstrikes, they go deep enough for me. Any info is appreciated. Jabbo

    Is the CX2 a 2 or 4 filter unit

And is it an analog detector or digital/analog. My CoinStrike has a digital meter. I need another toy to play with, am thinking of getting a CX2, want to try a detector with a needle meter again. I had a CX2 for a short time a few years ago, rarely used it, sold it because I had too many...
