"Civil War battle sites at risk" claim preservatists

Saw it tonight (scrolling bottom of the screen) on CNN. Didn't say who is putting them at risk. If it's detectorists then this could be a terrible thing for the hobby.

Cleaned a copper coin with extreme heat.

Found a 1847 large penny but in terrible condition with a thick hard green crust, the worst I ever found. The field it was found in was scraped off 6 inches, field now has huge piles of dirt, will soon be a 25 acre park, hope they redistribute the dirt and not haul it away. Also found two flat...

cz6 to cz6a cable connector conversion

To change the coil cable connector to the newer style, must it be done at the factory? Seems easy to do if I can get the male and female parts. Also replace the phone pigtail with a 1/4" phone jack. Any one know of any problems making these two conversions at home.

    Cortes SUM tones

Today I air tested the SUM tones on coins and on pieces of trash and found there is more than 9 tones in SUM. For example, a pulltab with beaver tail gives a certain tone. Break off the tail and the two pieces give different tones but they still fall into the Pulltab catagory. I counted 14 tones...

8.5 inch Wide Scan coil for Cortes.

Bought the Wide Scan coil. Did some air tests. Don't see much of a difference for sensitivity and seperation from the stock concentric coil. Does any one have both coils and know of any advantages over the concentric. My soil is mild. Hunt parks a lot and some beach hunting.

This website is a metal detecting college.

It's awesome how much I learn here, and I enjoy being here as much as I enjoy using my detector.

Need price opinion on 6000 DI Pro

Saw one for $175. Blue box, meter on handgrip. I have other detectors, not Whites. Is this one worth the price. Thanks in advance. Dave

    Fix your headphones stretched-out cord.

I bought Braided Elastic 1/4 inch x 3 yards for about a dollar at Walmart sewing section. Easy, just thread elastic through coiled headphone cable, tie each end to cable top and bottom. I taped the elastic to a piece of wire and pushed it through the coil. Tie one end and determine how much...

I was searching in a local park today and I see a red cloth pouch

at the edge of the wooded area. I pick it up, something heavy in it. Out falls a monster giant rubber dildoe. Been laughing ever since. Took a pic of it but decided not to post it because children might be viewing this website. Never know what you'll find. Also found some clad.

Sent my Fisher to Keith Wells for fixup

the girl said it would be about one month to get to it. I called a month later to see when, she said he is two months behind, so it will be another month. Maybe Fisher is quicker doing repairs.

    I buried a quarter today in a tot-lot

at a local park. Quarter is in a small plastic bag along with a note, some info about me, phone number. Said I would be interested in meeting a detecting partner. Someone will dig it up I'm sure. We will see what happens.

Cortes likes fast sweep speed for best meter ID.

Air tested target ID using 9 x 8 coil that was placed under a 5 inch high cardboard box. Swept 3 gold mens rings across surface of box at different speeds. Slow sweep speed produced 3 very short bars that were splashed across 5 cent, tab 1, and tab 2 all at the same time. Fast sweep produced a...

    Need Bullet ID

Found in central NJ, one mile from Rev. War battle site. Was fired, has rifling grooves. Measures 1/2 inch Dia., 7/8 inch long, back end is flat.

The thinnest gold chains and tiny gold earings

may escape detectors that operate at a lower frequency. But all gold rings and medium weight chains can be detected by detectors operating at any frequency.

    Tumbler adjustment

I found by raising one side of the Chicago tumbler the motor struggles less, takes some of the weight off the drive shaft. Can load more coins. I also replaced the motor (small) pulley with a sewing machine steel motor pulley, fits right on and grabs the belt better. Jabbo

Anyone know about warranty on used CZ7a Pro?

Just bought a used one last week, original owner purchased in 2000. Worked fine till today. The audio quit when I hit the Pinpoint button. Now can barely hear the speaker and no sound when phones are plugged in. Batteries show two bars. Or should I send it to Keith Wells.

Need help choosing - CoinStrike or a CZ type

Would like to have a detector that gives best target ID on deeper coins in old parks. Lots of square nails and other iron stuff present. Soft, moderate mineralized soil.

VibraProbe 570 drives my CZ-20 crazy up to about 4 feet away.

Can't start swinging until one minute when the probe shuts itself off.

VibraProbe 570 makes my Cortes and Vaquero

chatter loud up to 4 feet away. And the probe takes a full minute to shut itself off, that means I have to wait one minute to start swinging after using it. Last year I had the model 560 and don't remember getting any chatter from that one.
