    Nice new hunting location

I have a new place to hunt. No one has lived there in 50+ years. So far I have only found a 1943 Mercury Dime, Budweiser cans old enough to have been opened with a church key, and a lot of mason jar lids with the white glass inside them along with a lot of unidentified cans and bottles. The...

    For pouring bullets?? Civil war???

I was hunting a spot that was in my wifes family for over 100 years. They claimed that Sherman stayed there on the way to Aventsboro. I found where 4 Terry Rangers from Texas, was injured in the tiny (no stop light) town just before some of Shermans troops hit Fayettville (about 25 miles away)...

    Baseball field

Does anyone check the actual field, or just the grass on the outside of the fence, around the bleachers, the snack bar, and the parking area?

    Hey folks!

I have been using a Garrett groundhog I bought off ebay. It has done very well. I bought a Garrett 100 and the wife has taken it over. She found her first wheatie at a park in town, then she found another at a football field down the road. Yesturday she found her first silver, a 1953 rosie. We...

    It's official!! I'm a garrett owner!

Not the 250 I would love to have, but the Groundhog came from CA. today that I bought on e-bay. Lucky me, it was a battery pack that caused the "no sound" problem. A quick fix with a soldering iron and now I am ready to go. Now I need to find enough change with the groundhog to buy a 250!

Where do you make your best finds?

Coin find that is, So far mine has been the swimming hole by far with my only silver coin. Where do you find your best ones? Churches, Old home sites, parks, ball fields, or something else? This might give us some ideas of where to search a little harder at. Thanks all!!

    My first 50 cent piece

Not silver, but a 1776 to 1976 bicentennial found 39 pennies, one quarter, 3 dimes, and 2 nickels. All this at the old swimming hole. I had found the 1927 dime and one wheat penny from there. I just can't figure out were the rest of the old stuff is.

    Here's one for ya

I finally took a little time to do some research for the area I live. I sure was happy to find some of the info. It seems Sherman marched 60,000 men through here early March of 1865. I also found records of men being wounded in battle 4 miles away. Must have been a small battle. It does give me...

    Great early morning hunt.

The flooded swimming hole, that I had found the 1927 mercury dime at, finally came down to a workable level. This was my first time in the water hunting. In two hours I had 74 coins, a cheap ring, a few bullets, a button, and a few sinkers. 47 were pennies, only one wheatie, 10 quarters, and the...

    OK I couldn't help myself

I bought this garrett on e-bay. It was worth it for the books, case, and phones, well atleast it was to me. It has no tone, any ideas? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9742474882&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

    Evening hunt

Searched a old home site. Not much for money, just some clad close to the pond, but an old buttom and a odd copper piece with a flower on it. It looks hand made and hand engraved. It's in the lower left.

    Hey John D..

I guess you was right on the permission deal. I ask a fellow today about a plot of land he owns and rents to a church. There is an old store from the 50's on the same lot. He said "you can hunt any time you want, and you should try down by my pond. We just took down a house that had been there...

    Garrett Vs Garrett

    My first ring

I recieved permission from the local town commisioner (along time friend of mine) to hunt the local baseball field. I found my first ring this evening there. Found a small amount of clad also. Now here is a dumb question? Is it a pot leaf? I was thinking that a pot leaf was 5 instead of 7...

    Hunting Parks????

When hunting local parks and ball fields at schools, do you fellows get permission? I know there are laws about the State parks and such, but not sure about the smaller city and town parks. I live in North Carolina if anyone happens to know of any laws. Jonathan

    My finds from NC

I am very new to the hobby. I have only been out about three times using a very cheap detector. I hope to buy a 250 soon, so that is why I am posting on this board. My first and only silver is the mercury dime in the photo. The pennies to the right are the mystery to me. They are in very bad...
