Bought a new Minelab Vanquish 540 pro pack

You lose about 2" in depth compared to the 12" coil. Sensitivity is tricky and really depends on soil. Between 50% - 100% you only lose about 1/2" in most soils. If your dirt is highly mineralized, you should never use more than 70% sensitivity because you'll actually lose depth with too much...

    T2 for nugget hunting?

Tesoro Lobo Super Trac. The gold stinger is WAY old tech, and the T2 sucks for gold nuggets (that's why Teknetics made the G2). Big Gold!

    Shovel for metal detecting.

After watching this video, I got a Grave Digger "Tombstone" shovel. Best shovel I've owned!

Just a short comparison/observation about the Fisher f44 and a vanquish 440...nothing scientific here fellas

I've been using the Vanquish 540 about five-months now. I've averaged $62.00 a month in clad, found over 4-ounces (Troy) of silver coins and rings in that time. Deepest quarter was over a foot deep (clad, 1967). The great thing about it is being able to use it at the beach. A true land and sea...

    Beach performance

It really depends on the beach. On the Atlantic I use beach 2 most of the Time. On Long Island Sound, Beach 1 seems better.

    Not Sure What This Is!

Got out today for a post Turkey hunt. Came up with $3.19 in clad, and this mystery item. Thought at first maybe it was a flag topper but I'm just not sure. The area is rich in Colonial and Revolutionary War history so I din't want to throw it away until I know for sure. It was 12+ inches down -...

Minelab Vanquish 540 on the Beach

Yes, it hits gold very well. I still love my Equinox 600, but the Vanquish is a fantastic detector for beach and dirt hunters at a great price!

how does the Vanquish do on Bottlecaps?

Bottle caps and screw tops are a problem when trying to find gold - always have been. They give solid signals pulltabs 13, Screw tops 23, bottle caps 14. In a new park I set up discrimination so I only hit 25 or above, so I never dig trash, just dimes 25 (sometimes a deep Memorial), quarters...

Minelab Vanquish 540 on the Beach

I really like the Vanquish on my Atlantic beaches. It is deeper and more sensitive than the Apex - which is also a good beach hunter. My deepest greenie quarter was down around 15" in the wet sand. Anyone else use one?

    garrett apex or simplex

Monte is right. If you have a saltwater beach near you, get the Apex. If not, the Simplex!

    Rusty Henry still around?

Rusty Henry used his first metal detector in 1968, as a Navy Frogman on Underwater Demolition Team 22. That machine was built by Telex in New York, and cost the Navy $3,800.00! He got his first “civilian” detector, a Garrett Master Hunter BFO, in 1969. From 1969, through 1974, Rusty was a Navy...

    Glad to Join the Forum

Happy to join and learn. I use Minelab machines on the beach, and looking for gold nuggets out west. My newest Minelab is the Vanquish 540, which I am really enjoying on Long Island, New York, beaches.
