My detecting site has been transformed...

...meaning that it has been re-newed and is ready to start detecting all over again using various coils, detectors and techniques. This is the site where the clean fill dirt piles are dumped by the boro and power company. When it gets full the bulldozer flattens everything making it like a new...

Anyone else drag lots of dirt into the house?

No matter how hard I try I still get tons of dirt in the house. Boots, finds pouch, tools, dog, finds and detectors. Luckily I have mostly hardwood floors and no wife after me. Anyone have a creative solution? HH. Matt

    First Gold today...I think.

Found this ring today in one of the new dirt fill piles I hit almost daily. Its not pretty. The stone is long gone. Engraved '14k GOLD SHELL EMG'. Found with my GT and Sun-Ray S-5 coil at a depth of about 4". HH. Matt

    First gold with GT today.

Its not pretty but it is labeled '14k GOLD SHELL EMG' so Im assuming there is a little gold on it. Sorry for the bad pic. Whatever stone was mounted in this ring is long gone. It was found in one of the new piles of dirt fill I search almost daily. S-5 coil gave me a strong signal. Ring was...

    Accidental relics

I dont normally hunt for relics but I'll take them when I find them. I was at a BBQ gathering and I brought my GT. Lots of old and overgrown railroad yards in the area. I didnt find any coins but I got these. The temp was just too hot for me to really get out this weekend. Thanks for looking and HH.

Why do I find so few nickels...?

Am I missing something here? It just seems I only find quarters, dimes and lots of pennies. I found my first Buffalo nickel a couple weeks ago but it was at the bottom of a coin spill with a '59 Rosie on the top of the spill. What does your experience say? This happens on both my Sovereign GT...

Ever feel like you are 'that metal detector guy/gal' around town?

I hunt locally in two different towns. I can be seen on Main Street doing my thing,I can be hidden back in the woods, or anywhere in between. Ive met Police officers, town laborers, neighbors and strangers. So far everyone has been cool and they like to ask me questions about detecting. Kids at...

GT nabbed the 'slim pick'ns' today.

The GT with a Sun-Ray S-5 coil cleaned out all the clad I missed with the other detector with the big coil. I wish I could report silver or better but I cant today. Lots of uneven terrain, deep tire ruts, erosion, etc. The GT went right in and cleaned house. For now.... Next week it will start...

Low and slow for coil 12"+?

Hey there. Do you change (slow down) your sweep speed when you use a coil 12" or larger? Ive been experimenting with mixed results and I'd like to know your thoughts. Im used to going low and slow with my Sovereign GT but the DFX is a different beast. I know I can adjust sweep speed. Im thinking...

    DFX finds old coin spill.

Two Wheaties, a 1959 silver Rosie and a 1937 Buffalo all in the same hole no more than 6" down. HH. Matt

    How far will you go?

How far will you go (drive) to get to your favorite/regular hunting areas? I stay really close to home usually within a mile. The parks I hit are only a few miles away. I'm currently concentrating on private properties (yards) scattered within a couple miles. HH. Matt

    Not a bad day afterall...

Hammered two different sites today. Had a good time. Had the dog out with me. Even met a woman with her dog. But no silver.... So I go home, have some food and a couple 40 oz Budweisers. Feeling good I walk down the street to an insulation Co. warehouse (small). Back in the day my Mother's side...

    Sovereign rechargable battery...

Does it have 'memory'? I seem to only get about 4 good hours out of it. Its not that old. I do charge it a lot. Thanks. HH. Matt

Can a detector find a target thru solids?

A couple places I hunt are dumping grounds for torn up concrete and asphalt with lots of dirt in the mix. Thickness ranges maybe 3" to 5". I appear to be getting strong target hits thru this solid material. Is this possible? HH. Matt

    Older and Larger Silver...

Where have you found it, what did you find, what year is the coin and how deep was it? Parks? Private homesteads? What machine, coil and settings did you use? Please share your experience. Thank you. HH. Matt

Encounter with Boro Police (next town)

I had my head in a deep hole chiseling away at the gravel and hard pack when I heard a car pull up. It was a Boro Police car (the town next to where I live). I waved, got up and walked to the car. He had a big smile on his face, put down the passenger side window, and asked if I'd found anything...

    Rain...

Anyone have an idea to keep your BH dry in the rain? I thought maybe just a simple breadbag...HH. Matt

Anyone have a bad experience hunting in the rain with non-waterproof White's detector?

I was out today with my DFX when it started to rain. I didn't want to leave because the Utility Co. just dumped a fresh load of fill. My dog and I stayed about an hour detecting but I got so worried about my detector getting wet we finally left. Any insight from anyone? HH. Matt

Wouldn't have been rained out today if I had the AT Pro.

I took my DFX out before the rain started but of course as I parked the car at the site it started to rain. I hunted in the rain about an hour but I finally got to nervous about my detector getting wet. Got me thinking about the AT Pro. Anyway so I'm bored today so I sharpened my digger, cleaned...

    Wanna see something really bad?

I did this drunk. Im honest. Its very cool to me tho. I did it for fun. YES it voided the warranty! I do not advise you do this. I hunt by tones only with this unit so I dont need to see the display. HH. Matt
