    What does your gold resemble?

The home made wooden high banker in question began as a primitive sluice box and through trial and error,,, progressed into an effective portable high banker. The thought process was to build a more efficient “Long Tom” that could capture fine gold as well as the larger pieces. To assist in a...

    What does your gold resemble?

Hi Bob. I use to use an old Fisher Gold Bug but I found it was easier getting the gold out of the stream the old placer way (shovel, pick, pan, sluice, pvc suction, or high banking) then to dig up the banks when a possible signal was detected. Don’t get me wrong, metal detecting has its place...

    What does your gold resemble?

Another piece of gold resembling that of a seahorse or possibly a duck for that matter. Lol. Depends on one’s imagination.

    What does your gold resemble?

Here’s a piece of gold that I call my “Ace of Spades. “ By the way, the above is nice looking gold. (y)

    What does your gold resemble?

Every once in awhile you find a piece of gold that resembles something of this world. Looking back, a few years ago I was fortunate to find a nugget that I now call the “Van Halen Nugget.” This .9 gram nugget displays a prominent “v” and an “h” (hence the Van Halen nugget) on its surface. The...

    Wet Dirt

Absolutely nothing wrong with that gold take. 2 Thumbs ^^ to you sir. I love the “in the field” photo. Great pic with you working the bedrock. When it comes to bedrock, I am a one man demolition crew. As you did, leave no gold behind. Keep up the great work and keep us posted.

    Yellow Stuff

Why thank you Bob. Plenty of claims still to be had. Gold in most streams in Idaho,,, just got to put in the work and do the research. ;) Ma Betty, the above mentioned piece of gold certainly does resemble that of a rifle. And the “in God We TRUST & GUN” part, makes it that more meaningful...

    Yellow Stuff

A beautiful cool June day on the claim. Still there is the expected high water with mountain runoff’s but “If gold don’t care,,, I don’t care.” Just being in the woods and hearing the swift ripples in the creek is enough for me. And the gold, well that is the icing on the cake.

    Yellow Stuff

Thank you all for the comments and the likes. On numerous occasions when I work the stream, I do remove what I call “cemented rocks.” Simply put, these rocks are embedded at the bottom with clay and have not been moved or altered. If the water depth isn’t beyond two feet, I’ll carefully remove...

Detecting for gold - finding bits of mining history

An older post of mine that was missing it’s photos. I thought I’d update it for those who hadn’t seen these pics.

    Looking For Gold

Snow, snow, snow!! Tired of looking at snow? Do what I do,,,, I decided to jump into a snow bank to look for some gold. Nothing here but more snow. I think I'll surface when the snow melts and try looking for gold in a river next time.

    Hard Core Placer Mining

*CAUTION* If you are a recreational miner, I do advise that you test your limits to the EXTREMES! The following may subject the local miner / prospector to such confined conditions that prohibit the wants and desires of the local "cabin fever" individual to pursue such outdoor activities. Dress...

Detecting for gold - finding bits of mining history

When it comes to metal detecting, I consider myself an old prospector trying a modern day method. As a novice to this type of nugget hunting technique, it sure has tested my patience in previous outings. Fortunately I chose a wooded draw that was so secluded that even hunting was nonexistent. To...

    Winter Prospecting In Idaho

Now is the time to prospect the high country. Slightly warmer temperatures, no spring run off yet, and shallow waters. Again, this past Sunday (3-13-11) found me back at this small creek (PHOTO 1). Call me what you will (crazy, nuts, or just plain wacko) but I desperately wanted to move some...

    Under Water Gold Placer Finds

With a plexy-glass 5 gallon bottom bucket, I have provided close-up pics of my past Summer's under water gold placer experiences. Re-live my thoughts & excitement on such a find. This one shows a bedded penny weight nugget next to a quartz vein.
