    Heat Hunting

Not today... Went out Wednesday after work to our town square to clean up after the carnival left. I set my sensitivity at 2/15, then only used a screwdriver for surface recovery. I found a total of $3.28 with a 1946 nickel and I left in an hour. I picked up many broken plastic forks and some...

    Two Bullets

The ground was bare where I rescued these bullets. I'm now up to 73 bullets rescued from these hills.

    73 now

Searched a hillside with a new coil and found my 72nd & 73rd civil war 69-cal Mini Balls. Very tough to find and this is after 15 years of searching this area. Others finds bring this to over 150 bullets recovered from these hills. More awaiting...

    Two Bullets

Went down to southern Missouri and did not find any relics. I came back to Illinois and rescued these two 69-cal Mini Balls off a very hunted hillside that I would have sworn was empty of targets. BUT, I was running a 10x12 SEF coil at 15 w/boost on. Now I have more territory to cover, It's...

    Hot Hunting

Yes, it's hot. No grass hunting. I did mention woods hunting though. I went down to Glen Oak Park, Peoria, and hit the hillside. My first target was a 69-cal Civil War Era Bullet. After some junk and a half hour more searching out jumped another bullet. Decided to quit while I was ahead. Here is...

    spooning

I have a friend who is a silversmith and might work some magic on it. I still have some research with the old plat maps to do. Will post any new info.

    spooning

Rescued a large spoon while camping this weekend. Here are some pics of my finds with the makers mark and initials on the spoon handle. Spoon ID: Stephens Baker had his own silversmith shop from 1815 to 1818. He then sold his shop and worked for another establishment. This spoon has his makers...

    Weekend camp-out fun

Camped out at Jubilee State Park this weekend. Had my yearly Metal Detecting Permit renewed for the park and then went searching for goodies. Larry had a jump start on me but I still gave him some competition. Below is pictured my better finds. Yes, that is a big sterling silver spoon along with...

    Half and Medal

Here is a pic of the 1935 Half Dollar and the Boy Scout Hiking Trail Medal I found Saturday at the club hunt. The medal is missing the ribbon that was attached to he larger loop. Below is a write up of the trail. A privately built trail called the Amaquonsippy Trail was started in 1961 as a...

    depth fun

I took it slow, looked for deep targets, found them, them the coin purse showed up at 2 inches with $2.62 in it. The 1946 wheat cent was at 5 inch depth, 1946 dime at 6-3/4, 1953-D dime at 7-1/2 and the 1941-D Dime at 8-1/2. Sure is fun to mark a target, have your buddy come over and not sense...

    VFW

Was hunting a burned off hill side finding a Mercury dime and three wheats when this tag showed up. At 3-1/2 inch diameter it reads: Veterans Of Foreign Wars Bicycle Safety Club ILL 3929 I plan on getting it cleaned up, replated and hung at the local VFW Hall.

    Knowing

At an old park with five other hunters, houses across the street were 1890's. Can slaw was at a minimum and reading above nickel. Only one beaver tail recovered. Located this signal, same 17vdi all angles and one inch depth. Eight teens were walking by and I heard one say to another, "He has...

    Knowing

It is so nice to know that a ring is under the coil. Solid 17 in C&J, Blue signal best, nice 10K ring recovered. Put a dime in the pic to show size. Not the first gold ring recovered that I knew was a ring before I dug. Thanks White's.

    Ball Fields

On a played field I don't search, you don't want a child chasing a hot grounder, stepping on a soft spot and twisting thier ankle. Sidelines are your best with all the folding chairs and items falling out of pockets when they jump up to chear. many ball parks are old and much silver is found...

    Coil weight too much?

I do a lot of woodland hunting so I shorten the rod length for brush and tree swinging. I poke the coil under and around much of the time and with the extra weight of the control box on my arm it limits me to only three hours hunting. Hardly an excuse to carry extra batteries with me. Many times...

    Coil weight too much?

White's makes a hip mount kit. I used one for years with my old White's 6000 DI-Pro back in 1985. It allowed me to swing the coil more hours. Here is the part number to look up on their site. Hipmount Kit (V3, DFX, XLT, QXT) P/N 802-5260 I ordered one for my V3i today.
