    Copper spoons?

I found a spoon in my yard a few weeks ago and it looks like copper. It has some green color on it, but no identifying marks or anything. Anybody know if they made spoons out of copper? I don't have a working camera to send a photo in at this time.

I seem to find a lot of pennys. 1964 and 1968d penny and 5 pennys yesterday and one of those little truck models and a brass looking spoon. It wasn't stainless steel or silver and it was so corroded I could not find any markings on it. Hope to get out again today if the weather doesn't get...

    surface air supply

I was reading Bob Marx's book: The Underwater Dig and he mentioned something called an SAS or surface air supply which was way cheaper than a Hookah for shallow water diving. I wonder if they still make these things? This device was produced in 1965 by Outboard Marine corporation. Johnson...

    sniping tube

I am planning on building what I call a sniping tool to use in the water and I plan on using some 4 inch pvc pipe and plexiglass. This might not be the right name for what I'm trying to do. The water is pretty dark and I want to use it to look on the bottom of this creek for jewelry or coins...

    Went dirt fishing today

I was able to go dirt fishing today, but I am in so much pain I can hardly handle it. It was worthwhile to me, tho. I found 29 coins. 22 pennies including a 1942 wheat penny and a 1963 penny were the oldest coins I found. 4 dimes, 1 nickel and I found 2 states quarters in the same hole. 1...

    Interesting book on maps

I checked a book out through inter library loan that I thought I might mention. Most of the people on this forum about maps might not need it, but I think it will help amateurs like myself. The title is: "Walking With Your Ancestors, A Genealogist's Guide to Using Maps and Geography" by...

    DIY question

I saw a video on TV of this guy and his daughter using a bucket with the bottom cut out and had a piece of Plexiglas inserted in the bottom who found a piece of gold in a stream with it. They didn't give out any information about building this piece of low tech equipment and I was wondering if...

    jeweler's scale

I'm thinking of buying an inexpensive jeweler's scale and would appreciate some advice. I went to kellyco detectors and they have some with 100 gram capacity and 500 and 1000 gram or is it grain capacity? I think the small scale would be best for me considering I have not found any jewelry...

    Map research question

I was at the library in another county doing some research and was going thru this list of cemeteries in this county. I found quite a few abandoned private family cemeteries and some church cemeteries where the church has closed due to lack of new members. Two of these churches were founded in...

    Off topic post/Jane Fonda

President Obama and the rest of the liberal establishment want to nominate Jane Fonda as one of the 100 women of the century. If this was a contest for the dirtiest traitor, I would agree. But, to honor someone who dishonored her family and country and caused the beating death of three POW's...

    Good metal detecting day.

I got permission to metal detect this old beach where I grew up on the river and found about 85 cents. I found one 1965 dime just laying within a foot of a quarter. It was all clad, but the best day I've had yet. This doesn't sound like much to the more experienced members of this forum, but...

two short hunts & some clad

I was able to do a little detecting two days last week and found 14 cents one day and 6 cents the next day and they were all clad coins. 1-nickel, 1 dime and 5 pennies. Plus, a lot of trash, including a chain saw file. Glad it did not stick me, because it was all rusted up. I really enjoyed...

I found a 1938 Indian Head nickle Sunday and don't have any pictures at this time. I found a 1937 coin of the same type a few months ago. Found a nehi soda bottle from 1953 and a coca-cola bottle from 1959 when they still put the name of the town where the coke was bottled on the bottom of the...

    GPS, How-to?

I found this location for an old inn and I have the lat and lon for this inn, but I could find no trace of it at the location. I found this site by accident in some maps online and did not even bookmark the location. I did write down the lat and lon numbers, somewhere and I was wondering what...
