    Lovely old 1840's era home.....

A couple of pics of a 1840's era house that sits south of my home town. It and the big chunk of land it sits on are state owned community college property and last housed a daycare until a part of the foundation began to crumble and collapse. Thankfully, local preservationists have saved the...

need some settings suggestions for "well hunted" areas

I have been hitting some new sights lately with the E-trac in the coin mode and doing good...but want to head back and see what i have missed at a couple of favorite spots (1800s farms) that I have hunted many times (with a Sovereign XS, w. Sun Ray DT III meter) that have yielded quite a bit of...

    CW era button(??) ..Illinois 132nd.

Just sharing pics of a find from a few years back. Found this Ill. 132nd button while MDing. It was laying exposed in a plowed field where a house once sat (site marked in the 1874 atlas). I know little about the CW so i had to look it up and found that the 132nd was short lived during the CW...

    big beautiful tree

This big old cottonwood sits on a 1870s farm site that i recently began to hunt...the detector shows tree's girth. Tall grass and fallen branches make the hunt tough, and i have only found a few relics near the tree, but i'll be back again.

farm site finds. LC, IH, and silver thimble..

Hunted a virgin 1800s farm site that is now a plowed field (using the basic coin setting and a few minor tweaks). Found more tin scrap than anything, but i did mange to score a sterling thimble (nicked by a plow, i assume), Also shown in the pics are the holed large cent (too rough to read the...

christmas weekend hits...(3 IH & war nickel)

Had a few hours between yesterday and today to hit a couple of my favorite old spots....first time with Etrac, using the X-8 coil. The IHs are dated 1908, 1891, & 1881. The three of them were found on the same site where my biggest coin spill find (7 IHs), and quite a few silvers were found. The...

can someone ID what metal this is??

I found this ring made of metal on a 1800s farm site and can't figure what it is made of. It had zero corrosion on it when pulled out of the ground, it's fairly heavy, and rang a solid 12-28 on the Etrac. Any ideas?? thanks for the help!!

out with the old...in with the new (Etrac)

Been looking forward to owning an Etrac for some time. As of yesterday, I finally have one to replace the Sovereign XS that i've used for 14 years. Besides having the obvious technological advantage...the Etrac (with X-1 probe) weighs just the same as the XS, but it is much better balanced. That...
