9 inch hi freq vs 9 inch eliptical hi freq

Sounds like I need a loan from you. JK. Seriously were you comparing the depth of the D1 and D2 on the same object with the same size coil? Understand the D2 may offer a bit more depth but would the D1 still have picked up w/o a direct comparison?

New Detector for Parks, soil, and relics.. ...Equinox or Deus 2 ?

I suspect you are more confused than ever. I have a friend who is a ML dealer who only did the 3030 for years but use the EQ more now mainly for the weight but believes 3030 still deeper and mostly relic hunts where ligher machine better. Still like my D1 for coin hunting but high learning curve...

    CTX 3030?

Mine is worn out but am considering another one its that good ML's servicing and too many bells & whistles not withstanding. Have it on good authority that the new one won't be a CTX lite. My guess something like the D2 but less money and maybe a couple of extra feature just like we saw with...

How exactly does the 2D VDI on minelab machines work?

The 3030 is my oldest machine 10 years now. Target separation has always been my toughest decision because many areas I hunt are very old but have lots of both iron and modern trash. Have always favored ferrous coin a bit over modern trash even though it falses a bit more but doesnt look like a...

    Hunting the Privys

Problem with this hobby when you're young and can do it all day no time or money. When those are better you're a walking time bomb:)

    Hunting the Privys

Out houses are a source for buried money since they were close to and could be seen from the house. If they are still standing be careful though. When I was in pharmacy school read about a soldier in the guard who foolishly used one and was bitten by a black widow spider on well you know where.

Where are all the CTX users?

The best advice I can give is do not start learning this machine in a super trashy area. Its FBS technology makes really accurate but also gives it really slow recovery speed. I love it for lighter trash sites and use the Deus for the heavy stuff. Or get a shooter coil for the junky areas and...

The Legend has made my mind up!!

I believe everyone needs one good SMF machine and can see why you would go with NM which is top on the line in service and reliability. Once you learn it an SMF is more of a turn on and go machine than than a single multi like D!. But I would lean toward keeping the D1 for certain occasions...

It's refreshing to see more well rounded reviews.

Does the bottle cap feature simply not respond to aluminum or will it actually see a good object next to it? Have used deus 1 along time and know when I have a cap most of the time w/o gimmicks but I do need a new SMF machine. The different opinions have helped a lot.

    So, in the years ahead

Unlike some hobbys you are not dealing with replaceable objects so you could argue that mding is dying. I know it has to be more about quality than quantity especially with coins. This is why it increasingly has to be about research or committing oneself to digging out small super trashy sites...

Have had a heat wave and dry spell for 3 weeks now - dirt is so dry and hard should I wait?

What you describe is a way of life in the deep South. Pretty much shut it down from mid June to mid Octobever. Not worth it to hear a good signal then can't get it out'. Good time of year to map out some new sites. Tip-- if you have to get out put 3030 on fast and turn sensitivity down to where...

    Back after 15 years

One of my best friends has a Vanquish and has done really well with it. Easy to use, good depth etc but is not water proof. I have a Simplex and really hard to beat for the price. and waterproof. Is VLF but the kfz will handle most anything. Good for manuvering trash areas. There is also a new...

    Gb and nc after changes

Thanks live in area where the old stuff really sinks deeply in most spots but most areas extremely neutral so have never been comfortable messing with gb unless i can really see I may need to. As soon as I get taxes and hospital paid off will probably trade in for new 3030 and sell old one to...

    Gb and nc after changes

Read one 3030 guru who really believes in enabling GB for hunting the really deep stuff. Sounds like your saying its a function of coil size, open screen and manual(up to falsing point) and forget about gb adjustment unless circumstances really bad.

Looking for a plain Jane coin detector for grand kid

A friend of mine has a Vanquish and I have a Simplex Both are really good starters even for adults. Both run around $250 but most dealer will discount. If you can find a fisher Cz which is an analog its a good coin hunter. Better on nickels than some of these high priced dudes. Best

Is Metal Detecting on the Decline?

I know there are more md's being sold than ever before because I talk to them but I also seldom see other folk out there doing it. I've talked to people who buy a cheap machine on impulse and never take it from the box I blame reality shows and deep discounters on a lot of it. Dan Dankowski says...

Do you lose sensitivity if you reject a lot of stuff in a pattern?

Mike is exactly right. Sensitivity is more of a function of how 'hot 'your running e.g manual-auto3-auto2 decending order. But using real tight patterns increases your chances of junk pulling a good find into the blocked area. This is why I prefer to use a more open screen and use tone breaks...

Great video on coil size and separation!

6” and 11 “ coils compared excellent video! problem. turn the coil 90 degrees and coin masked regardless of separation and coil because nails horizontal to coin now. Typical for real trashy areas why small coil still does better overall in these areas and why you should hunt from different angles.
