    Ground Balance Number

When ground balancing with the ATP, is it the higher the number, the worse the ground? Has anyone figured out where the break point for concentric versus DD is at? By that I mean, at what ground phase you would be better off with a DD coil, versus concentric.

    How would you hunt this?

Today we hunted a field where we ran into a pretty good concentration of nails and other iron junk (like wire). It was a carpet of iron that is at the 6" to 8" level. I'm convinced there should be a few good targets there, but we didn't find any. We dug iron where it was bigger than a nail and...

    DD vs Concentric Coils

Why have DD coils become the standard coils on most newer detectors? Granted, the DD coil is better in bad ground and doesn't require as much overlap, there are a lot of advantages to the concentric coils. First off, pinpointing is typically easier, ID is better and depth is better for the...

    9 X 12 Concentric vs Stock Coil

Was wondering if anyone has run a comparison, for depth, between the 9 X12 concentric and the 8.5 X 11 stock coil? That would be in good to moderate ground, as I know in iffy ground the stock coil is the better choice. I need the deepest, best discriminating coil for relic hunting and only...

Manual Adjustment of Ground Balance Question

Once you've gb'd the detector so that it's neutral to ground, if you want to adjust it a little positive, do you drop the numbers and vice versa for a little negative?

    6.5 X 9 Concentric Coil?

The Garrett website shows two concentric coils for the AT-Pro. Has anyone used the 6.5 X 9 coil? I've just started calling around and at least one distributor is not showing it as being available yet.

    Detector Configuration Puzzle

One of the things about most current detector configurations that I don't understand, is the tendency to put a lot of the weight in front of the hand. The White's machines seem to have it right with putting the processor under the arm and the display right above the hand, but why aren't more of...

    Prospecting Mode

I never use prospecting mode for anything and after I read that some people use it to pinpoint with, I'm going to start playing around with it. I'm wondering if anyone knows if the volume varies with depth, when in prospecting mode? The arrows on the display, for depth are frequently wrong when...

Coil size for hunting around sports fields

I haven't hunted around sports fields in our area and am going to start. Do those that do this primarily, hunt with the stock coil or use one of the 6" coils?

Older detector that was good in iron?

Thinking of revisiting the analog detectors and was wondering what was one of the best older detectors in iron? Also, would be interested in one that was well balanced. Could be a bit heavy, like between 4 and 5lbs, but well balanced. Hopefully, tones or a meter of some kind too. Getting a bit...

7.5 vs 18khz for iron and non-ferrous separation

The ground I'm hunting is not bad, per se, just varies a lot in homesites or old camps. It seems I get pretty good depth with either frequency. I'm just wondering if iron and non-ferrous would separate better with 18khz? I don't have the 9" HF coil, but would pick it up if it helps with hearing...

    Next Detector?

I have an X-terra 70 that I've gotten pretty good with, but if anything ever happens to it I'm probably SOL. I had the warranty plan on it, but it has expired and even if I send it back to get it repaired, it probably won't come back as good as it was. I compared it a 705, when they came out and...

Safari weight and balance compared to E-trac

I have an X-terra 70 and I love this machine, but I'm looking to add another, newer machine. This X-terra is a fairly hot machine and gets excellent depth, but after having tried another X-terra 70 and a 705 it's unlikely that I can just replace what I have with the same or comparable model...

    Ground Balance on Manual Machines

Haven't had time to do much in the way of detecting in the last year, so took both of my detectors (one digital Minelab and the other a Tejon) into the backyard and started running tests over my small target garden. My ultimate target is a small flat button at 8". I've never tested both at the...

WTB Tesoro Eldorado (later lightweight version)

Like a fool, I sold off my Eldorado a couple of years ago, since I didn't think I would be using it. Now in search of one to buy. It's the one that has a control housing like the Cibola or Vaquero. Please contact me via PM if you have one to sell, that 's in good shape. Thanks, -Bill

    Replacement stand for X-terras?

Couple years ago someone was making triangular replacement stands for better balance on the ground. Is anyone still making these?
