    Equinox vs Crown Caps

So where do crown caps ID on the Equinox? On my Se Pro Minelab brilliantly exiled crown caps to the bottom/right corner of the screen far away from coins and gold. Not only can I notch them out and forget about them, I adjust my notch so that if there is a coin hiding under the crown cap the...

    Equinox coil questions

What size coil comes standard? It looks similar in size to Se Pro/eTrac/CTX coil. The coil is different, I spy 2 extra stiffening ribs center and the other 4 repositioned. Also noticed they flattened the front/rear of the coil. Anyone know how many pins the coil cable connector has??

Deus vs Equinox on small gold

After 17 years with ML Explorers and getting too old to swing Minelab's 5 pound machines its time to upgrade. I purchased a Deus recently and already placed an order for an Equinox I'll own both. The Deus and Equinox will become my primary beach hunting machines, replacing my Excalibur and...

Why am I digging clad dimes? ANSWER

Lets be clear, I hate clad dimes, HATE! In the old days I never dug them because the Explorer and Explorer II could reliably distinguish between the two. But more recently its like I can't avoid digging the worthless slugs which is irritating me. I had blamed this on the nasty volcanic black...

    58 Targets Sampled

I sampled a bunch of targets to get some idea how the Deus ID's various targets. Here are the results and observations... Observations - The Deus gives you a solid pretty reliable target ID up to a certain depth, then poof for most targets no ID at all, it won't even guess even though the tone...

    First Deus modification

Deus arrived this week, first mod, that's just wrong!

    Deus questions

No my Deus still hasn't arrived, UPS enough said. So a few questions while I wait...I'm coming from Minelab's (Explorer, eDud, CTX) so that's my frame of reference... 1. Minelabs hate air gaps, specifically a sandwich of coil/air gap/soil its a depth killer. Dig a 6 inch plug, if the target is...

    SE Pro Modded

Version 2.0 with more carbon fiber, MORE!! Here she is ready for her maiden voyage tomorrow at the beach, 56.5 ounces with 8 AA batteries ready for action. The fancy Minelab arm cup pad adds another 2.6 oz but its comfy. That's right I drilled a bunch of 1/2 holes in Minelabs overkill lower...

    DEUS Inbound!

Ordered a DEUS V4 today with the 11 inch round DD, the 9 inch round HF, the MI-6, Water Kit, etc. etc. After 15 plus years with Minelab Explorers its time for a next generation machine.

SE Pro Tactical gets more carbon fiber

Here comes version 2, converting handle and arm cup to carbon fiber to drop the weight. Also retrieved my old Explorer XS which is going to get the same treatment. This should eliminate 1/2 a pound.

    Charge the Paddles

(Charles clutches his chest) These were found (NOT by me) with a detector yesterday in just a few hours. I will be spending some time in this area for sure. :surrender:

    SE Pro Tactical

All done phew what a mod job, lets have a look. Everything adjust up/down this carbon fiber shaft, lower rod, grip/control box, arm cup, battery, probe holder. Below I have it setup for max balance for the stock 11" or larger heavy coils. With the battery mounted 6 inches behind the arm cup the...

    SE Pro Carbon Fiber Ultralight

Transforming my Explorer SE Pro into a carbon fiber ultralight. Some components have landed, others are inbound, work has begun so I thought I would start a thread. I found a nice thick rubber grip that can be replaced when worn out!

A forum member asked me about a bad coil and I ended up writing more than I planned to, here's a copy for anyone who might find this useful... Lets talk coils so you are armed with information and understand why a coil might be bad from the factory, how to test one, even fix one or build one...

Explorer DARK ARTS Lesson #49 (for Syd BC)

Beyond adjusting the machine for reasonably stable operation why adjust sensitivity at all? I only adjust sensitivity due to mineralized soil or AC power interference so the cursor is not jumping around too much. I see no reason to dial back sensitivity in iron because of iron. If its an iron...

Sunray Pro Gold headphones modded for CTX 3030

I heard about the external speaker snafu with aftermarket headphones so I modded a pair of my Sunray's today. I removed both toggle switches which were not only useless to me but I'm forever switching them in storms with my hood on which was annoying so good riddance. I kept the volume...
