Comparison - Manticore vs EQX 800 vs Explorer SE Pro

I'm starting this comparison thread. I ordered the Manticore the other day, it's inbound. I have a EQX 800 and Explorer SE Pro charged and ready. As a managing director of software development I'm going to get into the heads of these newer machines vs the Explorer SE Pro. EQX 800 vs Explorer SE...

Lost My Pin Pointer.... Damn It..! Need Advice

Modify an old Minelab Explorer for hip mount, attach the mighty X1 Probe. Full blast detector power with tone ID and discrimination ;) Useful in iron hell holes where nails and targets are mixed together. Also been there and done that OP, I lost my old Vibraprobe within days of buying it. Left...

    Gold was dug!

No the stock 11" is an awesome beach coil. Great at everything, small jewelry to deep targets. I dug some deep quarters at the same beach yesterday, I don't want to dig deeper than that phew!

    Gold was dug!

It's an Explorer SE Pro. I am NOT a fan of the Etrac. We'll see if I become a fan of the Manticore which is inbound!

Explorer SE 3D Printed onto Equinox Shaft

Ah, that sounds good in theory but the 3D printed parts are extremely time consuming to print. Even with my dual print head beast of a high speed 3D printer. Happy to post some detailed pics and people could print their own.

Thanks Jim, unfortunately the back of the ring is hollow but 4.7 grams of 14k paid for gas.

    Gold was dug!

Hi Tony yes I'm that guy from the Explorer days. I moved back west to WA state where most of my family is (was sadly) in 2012, built a house on acreage and took an 11 year break from metal detecting. Now I'm 60 years old and nearing retirement, how time flies. 60 Gawd that so weird. lol

Explorer SE 3D Printed onto Equinox Shaft

That's the factory Minelab housing. There's really no reducing it's weight further after removing the speaker, it doesn't weigh much most of the weight is the circuit boards. The membrane switch panel weighs pretty much nothing. I did remove a portion of the lower housing where it attached to...

Explorer SE 3D Printed onto Equinox Shaft

No I'll never sell it, she has dug pounds of gold and silver. You could mod an XS or any of the Explorers. 3D printers was the key. Previous attempts to reduce the Explorer's weight were marginal. It wasn't until I got a 3D printer that I made some worthwhile gains.

Explorer SE 3D Printed onto Equinox Shaft

After an 11 year break from detecting I hit the beach last weekend. Used my modified Explorer SE with 3D printed handle and battery box on an Equinox shaft. Worked great, gold was dug!

Equinox Questions - stateguyt and others

Tom had asked me for my thoughts on a few questions. (Tom your email box is full I could not reply to your msg) Figured I would post my thoughts here for everyone. Equinox vs Excalibur, Explorer. Assuming wet salt water beach or salt water hunting...no machine on the planet will be as smooth...

    Twisting Loose Lower Rod FIXED!

My Equinox 800 lower rod wiggled and twisted right out of the box, disappointing Minelab :ranting:. With the twist lock at full lock it barely had any bite on the lower rod, the only thing holding it together was the snap pin in the hole. I saw where one guy's snap pin hole busted apart after...

69 Targets Sampled 1700's to 1900's Gold, Silver, etc.

I sampled 69 targets and mapped them in Excel for a field reference guide, enjoy! Setup Notes - EQ800, Park 1, Sensitivity 22, Recover Speed 3, 50 Tones. All other settings were factory default for Park 1. These TID's are the solid repeatable TID's for each target sampled at about 8 inches. At...

Does the EQ have a rusty nail falsing bounce pattern?

Those of you who own Explorers most likely know that when a rusty nail is falsing high they exhibit a very specific bounce pattern between two locations on the screen (two TID's). First location, low iron tones (ferrous tone mode) cursor at the extreme top/left of the screen, 3/4 of the cursor...

    Equinox 800 Technical Questions

    1. Has anyone connected one to a scope yet to determine if the transmit power is steady or if it varies depending on settings/modes? 2. Are there any electronic chips in the coil, specifically is the receive signal being boosted at the coil? 3. Anyone using wireless AptX headphones or earbuds...
