    Outer Banks beach detecting?

What Mark posted ... National Seashore (national park) is a no go. If you pull up a map, there is Currituck Banks reserve that is north of Corolla that is no go and, as Mark mentioned, the National Park / National Seashore that starts south of Nags Head. I've detected the beach in Corolla a...

Is it worth fixing (Excal II)?

If it isn't already on a straight shaft, putting an Excalibur on a straight shaft balances it much better and makes it feel much easier to swing than the stock shaft. Light weight carbon fiber shafts are available as straight shaft set ups.

Is it worth fixing (Excal II)?

After market batteries are getting a little harder to find, but I see a NiMH pack for under $50 (from Nextbatteries) and a smart charger for $20 (From fortbedfordmetaldetectors) After sitting for that long, I'd suggest checking and lubricating the O rings. I'd say that it is worth bringing it...

    Black Sand

I agree that it depends on how thick and uniform the black sand is. Found same issues with CZs ... CZs maybe had a slight advantage but not much. When the black sand (or pink or red sand) get heavy a Pulse Induction detector is the way to go.

Taking Friend Metal Detecting for Her First Time, I was Rewarded.

Wife tried a detector for about 5 minutes and was done. She will walk the beach for hours to find shells and sharks teeth. She sees the teeth on the sand much better than I do. To each their own.

    Goodbye PI.

Hope no one takes offense; yet it relates to finding hair pins:

    Goodbye PI.

In those same bay waters, many of the encrusted silver rings I've recovered disintegrate when I started to pick the encrusted coating off of them. Some can be salvaged for melt with electrolysis. I miss the big wind blow outs of some of the beach areas; but not near enough to want to live there...

    Excal does good !!!

Always good to find a place that has not been detected to death by others. Congrats!

    Goodbye PI.

    As I said before:

    Goodbye PI.

Good. Spread the word widely that you think modern VLFs are as deep as a PI. Make the world a believer in your message and I'll not say more as I work with the Impulse AQ. ;-)

    Goodbye PI.

Got to pick detector based on the conditions. If I'm in an area that has a lot of iron that is not giving me sufficient tell tale signs to not dig it, I'll switch to a VLF detector. If there are few targets, I'm using the PI .... and yes, I have dug bottle caps with the Impulse AQ that had to be...

Not much at the Lake Michigan beaches, everyone here pays with smartphones and don't wear jewelry.

That would most likely get you put in jail. A couple of the nearby jurisdictions have outlawed metal shovels on the beach, but at least put in the code "readily available gardening tools" so as to exclude metal detecting scoops. I did have beach patrol watch me digging a deep hole looking for...

Pliers were the best find of the day

Watched the Pelicans glide over the waves and dug some targets. Saw some people on the beach in bathing suits ... not me, 50 degrees F is a little cool for that for me. The pliers cleaned up enough with a water rinse that the jaws close all the way very easily. This pair is going into my tackle box.

Not much at the Lake Michigan beaches, everyone here pays with smartphones and don't wear jewelry.

In Myrtle Beach area they are talking about starting replenishment again ... thing is that the last three storms have pushed sand up onto the beaches. Some of the dunes got flattened and spread out, but the steps and fences in most of the beach entry areas have more sand than they did after the...

3rd outing with CZ7aPro - getting back into the swing

Knowing the machine and what it is telling you makes a big difference too. For several years, the more time I spent with a CZ, the more good targets I could ferret out from near iron and the deeper I would be digging targets. CZ platform is relatively easy to set up too, so that helps in being...

Pulled the trigger on an Ultra.

Call them and tell them. It has been a while since I've bought from them, but they used to make things right when told about an issue. Hope they still do.

    Excalibur parts

Anderson Detector Shafts is one source. You can go to the on line auction sites and find others that might be a little less expensive. In a quick search I did not find them from one of the forum sponsors. If I'm wrong on that I hope someone will correct me and say which sponsor has them.

    5 kHz ABYSS

Will be interesting to hear reports on how well the discrimination works. On low frequency detectors I've used in the past, the discrimination has not been a very sharp cut-off.
