    Short hunt but worth it!

I had a couple hours Sunday so I headed to an old "go to" spot. This spot had a concentration of activity from 1880's-1940's. It's soil on rock with the deepest parts at about 6 - 8 in. It's very trashed out and overgrown with bushes and small trees. I use a small coil and climb around through...

Photos of what I didn't find Wednesday

I took a day off from work Wednesday to check out a spot with my detecting buddy Keith. He had found a few IHs there last week so we decided to give it a try. Well, we didn't find a single good target but it was sunny, in the high 40's and we got some good excersise and fresh air (do I sound...

    Flying cent and riced silver

Squeezed in a quick hunt about an hour before dark Saturday. Location is a small field infront of an old orchard - both VERY overgrown (used to be an old farmhouse at one time). Part of the field was being used to store replacement piping during roadwork. There was a small area that had been...

Oldest dog license I have found yet

Only had a few minutes to squeeze in some swingin' this weekend. I found this old dog license in a wooded area. It's from Hamden Ct - 1915. I've found quite a few from the 30's but this is the oldest I've found. I also found a pot metal mail box bank about 6" high in tough shape (Drat - nothing...

Indians gave up some silver after they gave me their 2 cents worth

I got back to IH park finally. They just keep poppin'! What still amazes me is the volume of older IHs and wheats. This time 15 Ihs, 28 wheats (19 of them pre-1920), 4 buffalos (incl a 1919), 3 mercs (36D, 44, 45) and a surprise 2 cent pc 1864. Two buttons: one is an eagle two pc button and...

Opinions wanted on cleaning Indian Heads

I've been finding alot of IHs lately - especially between two old parks. I really don't have much spare time so I've only been basically washing them off at this point. What is the best method of actually cleaning off the harder residue/crusties without ruining the green patina? Bruce in CT

Guess what I found more of at IH park? + misc.

Only had time for one quick hunt this weekend so I went back to "Indian Head " park. I found 4 more IHs for a running total of 49 - and 5 wheats for a running total of 66 (37 pre 1920). IH dates: 1864, 1893, 1899, 1906. Wheat dates: 1914, 1916, 1919, 1927, 1942. Man! ALOT of old cents here...

FINALLY !! Larger silver at Indian Head park !:clapping:

I got a chance to get back to my park for a while Sunday. I was happy to pop out a 1904 Barber quarter - at about 5 inches. Also found a 1907 Barber dime and a TINY piece of sterling (marked 925 - see photo #4 next to a wheat cent). Ratio of IHs to wheats is still holding true with 7 IHs to 4...

Updated results fron "new" old park (Indian head park)

I've been amazed at the amount of older coins from this park. I'm sure it's been hit plenty in it's history (I detected parts of it over 30 years ago), but there are so many targets I find it hard to believe that they were all missed !! The topsoil is black and about 8 inches deep - under that...

"New" old park gives up unbelievable results !!

Labor day weekend I tried a "new" old park that I had hunted about 30 years ago. BOY, was I surprised with the results ! I figured that if I pounded long enough I might turn up a couple IHs or a silver dime - well, I was wrong. I couldn't believe all the targets ! The ground was VERY dry and...

Trifecta at Dad's old park ++

I had about two hours to hunt Dad's park this weekend. Wound up with a dime trifecta. Outside of clad I found nine wheats including a 1917, Barber dime 1915, merc 1925D, Rosie 1946, two IH both 1902, and a tool tag (?). I got a few funky readings, and as for now I'm only digging deepies. The...

Ever have one of those "this is going to be GREAT" hunts?

I went cruising for a hunting spot Sunday - no real direction in mind. I ran across a church that was out of "service" (pardon the pun). It is a large stone church and brick rectory. Both buildings were closed up and all the windows covered with plywood. There is a large grassed area between...

Still popping surprises from Dad's old park - hunt #11

Got out to Dad's old park again last week. I hit a pocket - a fairly small area that seemed to produce a better concentration of finds (most fairly deep). I was surprised to find an 1838 LC at about 4 inches ! Other finds: two IH 1888 & 1904, thirteen wheats includind 1910 & (BRYCE CHECK THIS)...

    Missed a seated !!! @#!%&*

I had stumbled onto a small out of the way park late last year but never got around to checking it. A week ago I decided to try it out. When I got there I noticed that the 1870's-1880's Victorian house that ajoined the park property was being renovated. I asked permission to scan the small...

Latest two short hunts #9 & #10 at Dad's park

Haven't posted in a few weeks - hunting time has beed limited or it's been blazin' hot. Got a short hunt in at Dad's park a couple weeks ago. Four wheats ( all from the '20's ), a 1902 IH, and a 1941 Merc. Also found a clear marble and an amusement token. Last week I got in another short hunt...

    Dad's Park - hunt #8. A little more silver

Got a chance to do a short hunt Sunday at Dad's park. One IH 1903 (too bad I riced it), 14 wheats (including 1909, 1910 and 2 1918's), silver Washington 1954, silver Rosie 1946, and a play dime dated 1953 (says "play money & Falsa Pecunia" on one side and "uncle sam 1953 & play dime" on the...

Dad's park again for a short hunt #7 on 6/13

Got out for a quick hunt last Sunday at Dad's old park. Four IH including a fattie : 1860, 1880, 1897, 1901. Also found six more wheats from the 20's & 30's and a musket ball. Again, I'm still only digging deepies at this point so I'm not digging much clad at all. So far, just for IHs and wheats...

    Dad's old park - hunt #6 STILL producing !

Went back to Dad's old park for a short hunt on Friday night. The deepies are still showing themselves! This time 5 wheats ( Bryce another 1918 ! ), merc 1917, two Rosies 1946 & 1957 and a dateless Buffalo. Also an old key. I still have ALOT of park to cover and it will take a while because my...

Can't believe the quantity this old park keeps giving !!:clapping:

I've been hitting an old park over the last couple weeks that my Dad used to play in. I've been finding some interesting stuff each time (see my last few posts). Last Friday I was back for a fairly short hunt and actually turned up an 1857 flying eagle cent! Also found an 1890 IH, four wheats...

Pics from Easter Sunday Barber visit

I had posted my finds from Easter weekend right after the holiday. This weekend my buddy gave me a couple pics he had taken when I found an 1898 Barber half. The property looked GREAT. Problem was we weren't getting any targets but junk. No coins 'cept a couple darn zincs. Just before we left as...
