Silver rejection in high trash mode

Back yard test: Two nails one on either side of nail with both nails pointing NS 1” from either side of coin. Swinging from EW picks up silver coin no problem in High Trash because the center of the strong part of the double D coil can hit the coin by itself and give off correct TID and audio...

CTX3030 determining gold rings from aluminum junk like pop tops, pull tabs can slaw

Funny you mentioned that. I tried with my beloved Brittany Spaniel. But he never got past finding hidden dog treats stage of the training. Maybe you would do better with a pig. They use them to find truffles which I have heard pound for pound are worth more than gold.

CTX3030 determining gold rings from aluminum junk like pop tops, pull tabs can slaw

You are probably right but I have to deal with where I can hunt. Sports fields are 100% locked up behind chain link fences in metro Atlanta. This started in the 80's when the illegal immigrants started flooding into metro Atlanta and they would absolutely tear up any sports field by over use...

CTX3030 determining gold rings from aluminum junk like pop tops, pull tabs can slaw

You are right. I knew the answer, but was hoping some had the "Secret Sauce" for this problem. What I am testing is attacking the problem via probabilities. Like you said, hunt where rings are found. Not near an ocean beach (4-5 hour one way drive). So lake beaches, volley ball courts, old...

CTX3030 determining gold rings from aluminum junk like pop tops, pull tabs can slaw

Ok, I know the answer most likely be no it cannot be done. But does anyone have any combination of settings that can give an indication a 14 k ring under the coil is not aluminum junk? I know on the Nox 800 you could easily keep aluminum junk from masking silver coins by hunting in 4k. using...

tools used water hunting in the rocks

14" long and light weight and strong. flat part used for scraping sand/gravel back to me to see when target moves. after it moves I use my hands or sturdy plastic hand scoop to recover target. I use this when I hunt rivers and creeks when wading along the ankle to knee deep water. My CTX finds...

Have had a heat wave and dry spell for 3 weeks now - dirt is so dry and hard should I wait?

Good idea. I was out at an elementary school tot lot getting 8 - 9" signals. Nothing usually down that far in a totlot but can lids and other construction junk. Same with volleyball courts.

Have had a heat wave and dry spell for 3 weeks now - dirt is so dry and hard should I wait?

yes, I am waiting and while waiting lake beach hunting where all of those problems with dry weather are not a problem.

Where are all the CTX users?

so far, nothing but speculation. Minelab probably won't do anything to hurt the Equinox sales that is almost a given. Only thing people seem to be asking for to improve the CTX is lighter weight, faster processor and cheaper price. Otherwise the CTX is darn near perfect.

Have had a heat wave and dry spell for 3 weeks now - dirt is so dry and hard should I wait?

I have several really good sites to hunt. Will be coin cherry picking with my CTX. Should I wait until we get some rain for the following reasons? hard dirt, hard digging. almost impossible digging decent plug and hurting some of the grassy areas, and of course some say coins sound better in wet...

CTX 303 bad is now good

I have to admit I baby CTX like Lance Stater babies his. Remember when he was so reluctant to swap detectors with Hugh?

just curious who has purchased a CTX in the last 12 months

going to be interesting to see how you like it and how it works for you. What type of hunting do you do?

    Gb and nc after changes

Andy explained the enable ground balance check box pretty good in his CTX book on page 47. I even underlined it and highlighted it with a yellow magic marker and then promptly forgot about it. I mean what is there to know about ground balance settings. Minelab had it checked by default, so all...

    Gb and nc after changes

Back to the enable ground balance. Yes for about 5 months I was running the CTX with it checked. My hunting areas are all about the same in terms of mineralization. So after the initial hunt ground balance, I don't think it hurt me too much since I was finding good targets all along during...

    Gb and nc after changes

I had the Nox 800 for 3 years, bought it in 2018. I kept playing around with a lot of the advanced settings without knowing much about the real reasoning or really understanding them. So I figured at least half the time, I was hunting with a de-tuned metal detector. The experienced people on...

    Gb and nc after changes

yeah, what I thought after using it like that for 5 months. Who wrote the CTX manual. They had since 2012 to make it a little more clearer. I am afraid to ask when did you buy your CTX?

    Nothing worse than...

Having a new CTX3030 and 98 degree weather for weeks on end with 110 feels like temperature and 91 degrees at 9:00 pm. Absolutely cannot hunt in this heat, even early in the morning it is in the mid 80's and going up fast. It looks like a big part of the US is having this unusual heat wave in...

    Road trip iowa

I tried the Minelab Pro Swing harness. did not like it too bulk, would not fold up in back pack. Got Doc's Swingy Thing harness and it fits real comfortable like a pair of heavy duty suspenders, keeps my pants up since I have billfold, keys and pinpointer and finds in my jeans pockets. Very...

    Road trip iowa

We are having 98 degree heat and feels like readings of 110. Has shut down all my hunting except from 7:00 - 9:00 am when is in mid 80's. Can't imagine hunting that much in that heat. Hottest June here in Atlanta in a long time. That is why I sold my Nox 800 and got my CTX. I have a lot of trash...
