    Back in The Water

Thanks for the replies. This is kind of a low income area, but it hasn't always been this way. On at least 2 occasions, I found 6 gold rings during a day of digging, but when it stopped, it just cut right off. Still fun to go, though.

    Back in The Water

It has been 2 years since I went digging, so this morning I went to one my old places. Found a lot of change, some junk, and a Tungsten Wedding band. I hate those things, even though it WAS a ring. Years ago, I found a lot of gold rings, but all of a sudden, the gold stopped and the Tungsten...

    Lucky Yard Sale Find

Awesome! I have a "thing" for riflescopes, and buy good quality ones when I find them. I have never found any optics of that caliber, however. I do like the old Japanese optics.

    Lucky Yard Sale Find

Great! Finding deals and bargains is almost as much fun as digging. Getting old and having health issues intensifies those kind of finds for me. Wife and I both love yard and auction sales. Just about every weekend we go out looking.

    Lucky Yard Sale Find

Thanks! I haven't cleaned it up yet, but the coil was dirty. Checked the headphone jack and it works as it should. Now, if I could just motivate myself to go digging, all would be well!

So what target has eluded your pouch after many yrs in the hobby...dont include gold pieces or morgan and peace dollars..

Gold coin. I did hit on one at an old girl's college years ago, and when I dug the plug, the signal disappeared, so I walked away, foolishly. A good friend of mine dug it later on one Sunday morning. It was a pristine 5$ gold coin. . My fault for walking away, but I was glad he found it. That...

    Lucky Yard Sale Find

This morning, wife and I went out looking for sales, and I bought a working Tesoro Conquistador umax for 10.00! I couldn't believe my luck on that one. When I asked the guy how much he wanted for it, I was expecting maybe in the 50-100$ range, but he said 10.00. Bad health won't let me hunt much...

Will I Get Thrown In San Quentin Prison..??

I have hunted a few places that said the same thing. You can detect, but don't dig. Hunted the same places for over 40 years. Enforcement saw me and others doing this, but nobody ever bothered me. But, if a cop or ranger happens to be an "anus", they could make trouble for you.

    I'm an IDIOT...!!

I'm very sure that I dug a fist-sized meteorite while relic hunting years ago. I tossed it into a hedgerow thinking it was iron junk. Went back later and couldn't find it. Oh, well. Life went on.

    I'm an IDIOT...!!

Good point! I'm gradually losing mine due to age and health, but I always hope to still have one or 2 when I leave. 😆

    Well life rolls on

If I still hunted like I used to, my Tiger Shark and Silver umax would be used frequently. Last dealing I had with the Gifford was to hard-wire my headphones to the Tiger. With the old connection, the machine would false in waist deep water, when that part hit water. Been working good since. I...

What makes your metal detector good? How to become a better detectorist? Do you care?

I hunted for many years with lots of machines, and did well over the years both in water and on land. Never dived, though. Just walked and waded. I would say that the old beep and dig machines did me the best, but I had good luck with finding "virgin" sites, so my luck may have been attributed...

    Still Using Old Tiger Shark

That makes a lot of sense. I got proficient with the Tiger, probably because I hunted the same areas over and over. The machine just "fit" the conditions where I hunt. For the last 3 years in a row, the water levels have been high, so that hurt my late season hunts.

    Still Using Old Tiger Shark

Yes. As for the finds, the rewards are definitely related to the quality of traffic where you hunt. My health is not good at all, but I really enjoy the exercise and even the junk finds on a day when I feel like going.

    Still Using Old Tiger Shark

Thanks! I've been digging since 1979. And I've had many machines, but I rarely get to salt water. I've found lots of gold rings and things over the years in freshwater, and have found 6 gold rings in one day on 2 occasions, but about 6 years ago, the gold abruptly stopped, and then it was all...

    Still Using Old Tiger Shark

I've been out of serious detecting for a good while now, and didn't even know that Tesoro was history until yesterday. My 2 favorite machines are Tesoro, but I am thinking about getting an Equinox 6 or 800. Just wondering if the Equinox will outperform the old Tiger Shark. Oh, well. Decisions...
