    I have found a couple that had designs on them, but no sign of a hinge. Like Rick stated, they simply snapped on the back. Check inside for any writing or stamping.

    Can’t help on the buckle, but that is a nice civil war Infantry (I) button! The button with the eagle on it looks like revolutionary war era.
