Not sure why but many times clad and silver will pinpoint

at a digital 31-31. Of course if I redo it, it will change, however, I believe this conflicts with Bryce's experience. I am just trying to rule out iron which is still a struggle for me. Sometimes I di and dig a tough to get to target only to have my White's friends come over and tell me it's...

    My first large cent!!!!!

Been looking for this coin for 3 years. Ain't the prettiest...but oh, so pretty to me! Thanks to my hunting partner Scott...AKA Catskill Comics who is 95% permission rate. He has been so helpful. Can't read the date yet, but based on the design, it appears to be this pictured coin. Only issued...

    grassy strips

I've seen videos of a guy who spends a lot of time in these areas of sidewalks finding the goods. In high trash areas, it would seem that the good stuff is probably underneath the garbage and thus would be masked. Is there any way around this? I can "see" in between the trash by moving...

SE observations...what say you experienced types?

Did a bit of testing in my garden this evening to attempt and simulate a real situation. I hear a sweet sound over the silver, sometimes accompanied with a mild "bang" ; I did hear this the last time I actually found silver in the field. too. Also hear the "warble" described. I noticed that...

    3 dime day

Lucky 1 hr. hunt for me today. On an old map there was a park that is now built over with homes. An adjacent property is public and I thought maybe there was some spillover wagon parking. This may or may not be the case, however, I finally found a few coins. Actually i only dug 2 other clad...

    gold readings

I recognize that gold readings will vary based on depth, karat and size, however, is it fair to say that the ferrous number will almost ALWAYS be lower than the conductivity #? Also with the sens at 25, I seem to be getting some falsing in the very wet sand...is this normal? thanks as I am...

    map help needed

Been striking out at parks and would like to get into cellar holes more. I have downloaded a few maps of the areas I want to work, however, have yet to find a plat map from the early 1800's or late 1700's. I will head to the library soon. I have seen topo maps from the late 1800's, beers county...

took the day off to go MDing with a friend

. Traveled 1.5 hours at 6:30 am to park #1. Looked real good and as we were working our way to the very hidden back of the park, a town employee told us the mayor wanted no digging in the park, so we had to bolt after hunting about 30 minutes. So we select another park from the garmin and end up...

why not a larger SEF coil?

The 10 x 12 sef isn't that much larger than the stock SE coil, so why wouldn't one use a larger one to go deeper? Because of trash? Why not the 18 x 15 butterfly coil? Interesting that only 2 additional inches would give so much more depth as Andy's article states.

So, you get a mixed signal with tones varying over many octaves

, however, somewhere in the mix there is a sweet repeatable tone. Maybe like one of the farthest right keys on a piano. The question is, is it likely that something good is down there or is it most likely just all junk? Also, you hear a whisper of a great tone. Not so repeatable in any...

    keep gain at >6 because?

You will begin to loose depth? Threshold is established at barely audible. This is a universal level accepted by most all because? It allows you to hear low volume tones better? tones in general? thx for all the help Aaron

is it possible to set the SE such that deeper coins ring with the same

tone and frequency as shallow coins but associate the deeper ones with a lower volume? i went out for a marathon hunt today and just plain struck out. 2 old parks gave up very few deep signals. i found 1 wheat that was the only deep repeater all day. Same went for my partner who struggled all...

    code violation

Bryce, I must admit with only 10 hours on the SE, I strayed from your advice to stick with the factory presets as i went out with a friend. He made some adjustments, what I am not sure and i have been on this setting for about 6 hours, I do know that on a 4 hour hunt in 4 locations, neither of...

2 more hours on the SE

Got out for a bit today. i do not believe i was actually using the factory presets before as i did not hold down the power button, however, today i did. ended up digging many things, 24 junk targets and 21 coins including 1 wheatie and a 64 Rosie. I was a bit lazy and made assumptions when...

8 hrs now on the SE

Today, I had 2 hrs. and 40 digs. Some iffy signals repeating in 2 or 3 directions yielded 18 coins and 22 junk (1 had 2 pennies in the hole). Did find a relic in there as well, some sort of brass bedpost. I am working a very old park. I am certain it has been there for over 100 years and this...

    Day 2 w the SE and Bryce's 101 course

Unfortunately, I only got out for 2 hours today, however, I made some good progress I think. This gives me a total of ~ 5 hourse on the machine. 3 things helped my day tremendously. #1 is the pinpointing. The instructions I got here worked perfectly. # 2 was my shovel. Those little lesch...

Ok guys need a little help form the experts and experienced here. My friend can't take me out this week as his girlfriend bought an XS because she couldn't get the hang of the DFX....so he had to teach her. Anyway, there are a lot of tones coming from the SE. Sometimes it sounds like a short...

    Explorer SE new to me

Been lurking here for a few weeks and reading through some recent history as well as watching some videos to learn about the SE that I have been awaiting. For the past 2 years I have been using what I thought was the high end of the low end machines, a tesoro cibola. Had many nice finds...
