A "classy" ring return story worth reading

It's been a while as I've been outta the "swing" of things guys, but this one I had to post. Several years ago, I found a class ring from my own Alma mater in a park. It was class of 2005 with no initials, just a football icon. (I am certain I posted the story here but for some reason, I cannot...

    live or memorex

I got out for ~ 3.5 hours this am. It warmed up nicely and I had to remve a layer of clothing. I was going real slow...embarisingly slow as I didn't want to miss anything. I dug a few nails that really fooled me. I mean digging it deep and hearing a null with the probe but still a hint of hi...

    couple hours

So i only had a few hours this am but 1st dig was this ih...slightly strange as it spunded iffy from 1 angle with a slight null from another direction sounded digable. really a pretty one when it came out. Dug a button and thought i heard silver a few times today....sometimes i convince myself...

    Your local neighbor "HOOD" pharmacist

might use this object. At 1st I had no idea what it was, however, a couple walking past the park started talking to me. (What a nice guy I am at dusk, taking the time to promote OUR hobby). Anyway I showed this to him and he put it together...it is an instrument for weighing things. Rang up as...

    war of 1812 button

So, i haven't been out in about 3 weeks and today I went to a local park. 1st dig was the IH then a few deep wheats. I had another deep copper sounding item and it turned out to be this button. It was deep and in a very old park. I've never seen one, but it was ID'd as an artillery botton from...

    help with settings

So , I am trying to help a friend locate a large cast iron sign that was accidently bulldozed. He says it is no too deep....maybe 8 ". So I set the SE to AM, ferrous sounds and I am looking for a large area of sounds, however, this never occured. I would also think a possible overload sound...

    matron head

I was helping a friend try to locate a buried sign on his prop erty to no avail so i went for a drive. I knew there was an old train station nearby and on the way i saw a park i have not seen b4. The sign said 1880 and donated to town in 1914,so i thought id give it a try. This was the 1st...

    sadness

Dear Friends, It is with great sadness that I say, my neighbor, friend, fellow minelabber, metal detecting guru and mentor passed this morning. He lived 2 doors from me in a town of about 500. How ironic that he moved here from Brooklyn about 5 years ago and I happened to hear he was an avid...

    2 center

Its easy to forget the fundamentals of things and MDing is no differnt, clean your coil cover and such. After my last post, samuel_schumaker siad something that I had forgotten. He knew I was running ferrous sounds as I have been ever since I read Charles in NY's post 2 years ago. I liked it...

    insanity

...keep doing the same thing over and over with the expectation of different results...that's how I roll. All the local spots are done, over; devoid of many deep coins. So why do I constantly head back there....'cause they are close and I need to get out. I haven't been out much this summer, so...

    Gold!

I've been vacationing with the family in NC for the past 2 weeks and spent 8 or 9 hours detecting this stretch of beach in front of the rental we were in. So few people also meant very few targets. Even hitting a signal was exciting. I dug pull tabs, crown caps, hooks, weights and aluminum bits...

    beach hunting with the SE?

I am at a beach right now in NC for a few more days.....there are not many people here as there's a lot of frontage and only families. Maybe there's 50 or 60 people per 100 yards of beach. I have spent 5 or 6 hours hunting in the wet sand at low tide with my SE and 10x12 SEF coil, however, have...

    going slow

Well I went to a hunted out park tonite for 1.5 hours. Scott found a gold ring there yesterday and we've pulled some very old coins from there so I said what the heck. I was reading a post about going slow (of course I already know this but it promted me to take my time); thus I was going...

    good find????????

Went to a local hunted out park for a few hours looking to try some different settings, dig some iffy signals if necessary and look close to iron. With about 10 total digs, I came up with 2 IH cents, 1899 and 1864. I had a slight silvery sound near the last one, however, the police asked me to...

can u use a land detector for shallow water?

I mean real shallow....maybe strapped to my side so there's no risk of dropping my explorer in the drink? Or are the sounds so different on a water detector? I also have a cheaper whites I could use......Sure would like to find some gold and I can't seem to find it on land......

    sensitivity settings?

So, someone mentioned on here that the XS default sens is 16 and the SE is 22...I always run hot, most times 30 semi auto. My questions are these; will I have less difficulty differentiating iron from silver if I turn the sens down? How much depth will I give up by going to 22 manual? 1", 2"...

sure could use a little tactical gold finding advice

I've dug hundreds of nickle signals only to find nickels and pull tabs. I've asked this question before and gotten the range of readings I must dig.....just about everything. Does anyone have any practical advice that avoids digging all signals to find some gold? I know I walk past it each...

    MA LC 1 hour hunt

So, I was in MA this weekend for my son's hockey tournament (they took 2nd and my kid got thrown out at the end of the semi finals). Across the street from my fathers house, there's an old school that;s been boarded up for many years. I have been there and my brother has been there and found a...

    seated

3 parks, 150 miles and 1 keeper. Tough day in the parks for me. The 2 1st parks were busts couldn't get in the groove. Memorial pennies at 7" and quarters at 4". Next park was a killer,. Holding my detector in the air it was going crazy let alone on the ground. The last was in Albany, NY...

so many holes, so few keepers.

Went out with my DFXer friend and another friend (minlabber) today for a marathon hunt. I really didn't want to go back to this park, however it was the concensus so I obliged. One of these guys has no issue being asked to leave. I , however, never like to hunt unless I am certain it's cool. He...
