    Exp DVD Question: Worth $?

Is the Exp DVD worth $20 or is it mostly for short-attention-span-folks-who-can't-read-the-manual? If you learned something good from the DVD, what was it?

Semi Auto Adjusts Up (as well as down)

Out yesterday. Got a faintish signal (3/4 depth scale, bullet at ~4") and did a test. I dropped Manual Sens and at 10 I was unable to hear the target. I enabled Semi Auto (at 10) and the target came in loud and clear. Therefore it seems like the numeric setting doesn't entirely matter when...

    Newbie Explorer Observations

I bought an Explorer about a week ago and spent a good 15 hours working it this weekend. I found that Semi-Auto 13 wouldn't pick up a quarter at 6" but Manual 13 would. I started with Gain at around 7, but lowering it to 5 and raising vol by a notch gave me a much better feeling for depth...

24k maps for SF Bay Area (or any metro area...)

I'm looking at GPS units (specifically ifinder expedition, h2o c & garmin 60cs). They seem very similar with the difference being what maps you can download. Garmin: MapSource Topo ~$90 100k scale Lowrance: MapCreate ~$90 100k scale 100k maps are great for driving but not for backwoods...

Questions about the IDX and QXT

I'm trying to work out the lineage of some of the older whites machines. It looks like the Classic IDX is the same machine as the IDX Pro. Likewise the Quantum XT looks the same as the QXT Pro. Do you guys know if these were just rebranded to create the "Pro Series" (IDX, QXT, XL) or if there...

Sovereign in EM noise versus other detectors

Was out detecting median strips last night and the EM noise in the middle of one block was terrible. In All Metal the threshold chattered cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha continually even with Sens at Min or in Auto and Disc wouldn't ever settle to a threshold. The noise was coming through the...

    Sovereign XS2 Remote Switch Mod

Everyone loves a remote all metal/disc switch. I didn't want to solder my machine so I used nice fine alligator clips instead. [attachment 24068 md-remotesw-04.JPG] Drill a hole and run a twisted pair to an 1/8" jack. [attachment 24069 md-remotesw-08.JPG] Solder insulated alligator clips to...
