    More Iron Found

The top item I'm not too sure what it is. Maybe a wedge to split rock. The middle is a spike puller, only 30" long. Short enough to work with in a low mine shaft. The next are just a bunch of spikes. I might sell them on ebay...people will buy anythhing. The next is a miners lamp, only 2 1/2" tall.

After 35 years of digging, I found my first gun

Was digging at a lumber camp yesterday and dug up an old gun. It's a lever action with an octagonal barrel. It looks like it had a tubular magazine under the barrel but is gone now. The bore is 3/8 diameter. Does anyone have any idea what make or caliber this might be. I know it's difficult to...

Has anyone else had their Ace 250 coil crack and chip?

I was out digging yesterday and packing up to come out of the woods when I noticed that the bottom of my coil was damaged. There were 2 sections on the bottom of the coil that were completely gone. One section was 3" long and wires were exposed. I had to repair it with epoxy. Has this happened...

Metal found a couple weeks ago before the ground froze

Sorry for the crappy photo, but I'm using my daughters $15 digital camera. The mining pick is 15" long, I have found them in 3 different lengths. The log chain was used to connect logs end to end, 3 or 4 logs at a time, and dragged out with a horse. There is a swivel in the middle so the chain...

    A very unproductive day

Today after spending almost 7 hours in the woods, I came home with only 2 relics. A bark spud and a Dr Kilmers Swamp-Root Kidney Liver & Bladder Cure bottle. The bottle was on top of the ground. 100+ years ago, lumbermen would cut down hemlock tress and peel the bark off with a bark spud. The...

    Dang Blasted Ticks...in January

I was out detecting in the woods today for 6 hr. and have never seen so many ticks. I was stopping constantly to take ticks off of me. I picked 28 of those blood sucking critters off my cloths. Usually when I go out in warm weather I spray insect repellent with Deet on my clothing, but didn't...

The creek was too high so I had to change my plans.

On Sunday I took my Ace 250 out. I had planned on crossing a creek and hiking a couple miles back in to an old log camp, but the creek I had to cross was too high and swift. Instead I drove about 10 miles away and walked about a mile back in to detect along an old log road. I was pretty...
