Is This Some Sort of Old Spiggot?

Hi, Found this yesterday near an older home site. Looks to be some sort of spiggot. Can anyone ID it or provide the timeframe that it is from? The odd thing about it is that there is a little hollow plug (made of copper I think) that was still inserted in the nozzle and I was able to pull it out...

Band with "221" - Any Ideas?

Found this band today that I originally thought was junk. I cleaned it up a little and I can see that it has the numbers 221 embossed on it. It's rivitted in the center of three possible holes. Is it an ID band for a wild goose or some other sort of farm livestock? It was found near some...

    Any Ideas on this One?

Found in a park that has yielded some old finds going back to 1850's or so. This "thing" is either lead or pewter and is basically oval in shape. Flatish on the back and has a single stroke or mark across the front. Thanks for any info.

    Any Ideas on this One?

I think it's lead or pewter - must be old because the metal is starting to flake away. It's somewhat oval and basically flat on the back with a stroke across the front.

    Excelerator 5 or 6"?

I need a small coil that will go deep - which on is best for a semi-trashy park? Why? Thanks, Erik

    1906 Edward VII Shilling

Hi folks, Just got back from Bermuda where I spent my 3rd anniversary with my wife. I had a chance to finally do some detecting (been a busy year so far). I also did my first beach and water hunting with my SE as well as some land hunting. Found some interesting coins and relics. Here's one...

    George VI Shilling

This is a nice silver shilling (1941) that I found in Bermuda - the hi-res scan shows all the hairline scratches, but it looks quite good in person. I also found a 1906 shilling which I'll post later. These were my two silver coin finds - although they were both land finds - I thought you...

Met BDA Hunter (and my Bermudian nut)!

Just got back from Bermuda where I went with my wife for our 3rd anniversary! I met up with Find's legend BDA Hunter - and what a nice pirate he was (see post below re New Pirate by BDA Hunter). Want to post the nut from a few days hunting, but need some help reducing a 450KB jpeg - how do I...

    Mint: Don't melt money

Government threatens prison for violators; at current prices the metal value of the coins may exceed their face values. December 14 2006: 11:53 AM EST NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The U.S. Mint has implemented a law against melting down pennies and nickels which, at current metal prices, could...

Why did Minlab send me a new manual for my SE?

It was nice of them, but I'm not sure why it was sent. Maybe there were some updates or errata? I bought my SE from Kellyco and I'm wondering if anyone else received one. Too bad they didn't surprise me with a new coil :bouncy:

    Injun, Barber, Token, & Relics...

Had a chance to get out for a few hours with the SE again today. I've been slowly removing all the targets from an area of the park that I've been working for a few months now. First older relic was what appears to be a rivet from a pair of pants. Note the gilting on the design. Anyone...

My First Finds With the New Explorer SE

I found these items today in about an hour with my new SE - though I'm sure my XS would have found them as well. The first is a 1907 IH cent that sounded to me with the SE like a Lincoln cent. I was surprised to see the IH. The second find I thought was junk, but is probably one of the more...

My First Field Test with the New Explorer SE

I've been using an Explorer XS since its introduction - so I have a few years experience with it. After the spirited debates last week on the new SE I decided to put my money where my mouth was and I ordered the SE (Jerry in Bristol (JBM) said I was not marching ahead with the new technology...

Two More Savages & an Error...

Hi folks, I've been away from the forum for about a week or so. We had terrible weather in NY/NJ for most of the Labor Day weekend, but today was nice and I got enough yardwork done so my wife didn't flip out if I went out detecting. I found the two IH cents which are 1890 and 1903. As well...

    Any Ideas on This One?

The cent is obviously there for size. I would appreciate any ideas on what this might be from.

Shield Nickel and Some Other Goodies!

I went back to the park I have been working and rehit the area that I started cleaning all the targets out of. I continued for a couple hours this evening and the results were very interesting. I got a very crummy signal that turned out to be quite deep, but since I was digging everything, I...

Hello Fatty (and Scar Face too)!

Went down to the ol' park I've been hunting and decided to take some time to clean out ALL targets from an area so that I can come back with my WOT and try to get deeper. This park has shown signs of good stuff mixed in and I believe it's deep. Anyway, I got a junk hit and dug a pulltab and...

    3 Little Indians...

Hi, Got out for a few hours last night and was able to pull three more IH's from the park. One is in pretty good shape, the other two are noticeably worn. They are 1905, 1881, and 18xx. They look better in person than the scans show (perhaps I should have photographed them). I also found an...

Hunting an older clad laden park....opinions needed!

This park that has produced the seated quarter and IH cents as of late obviously has some history to it - and the jury is still out as to whether the stratigraphy has been disturbed at one or more times in the past. I'm starting to believe that it has not been that much disturbed, but that some...
