    Finds from the yard, continued

[attachment 94837 DSC00124.JPG] This is everything I found on my last hunt (over a week ago!)...3 clad dimes, a clad penny, an old axe head, the usual molten lead and lead chunks, a railroad spike, an empty .45 casing, and some other junk. The iron pipe, capgun barrel, and square nail (in upper...

    Logbook

So I got to thinking (scary, I know!): I use Excel so much for work that I've gotten to be pretty good with it. So instead of a paper logbook, I've made a nifty spreadsheet I use...it keeps track of each type of find automatically, with a running total of each item and the total cash value of...

    Latest finds

Thursday: In the park This park was built in 1895 and used to be quite popular in it's early years. 8 clad pennies, 1 clad dime, buncha junk (old stoneware pottery shard in upper right...): [attachment 93078 DSC00018.JPG] In my yard afterwards, another 1940 wheatie, 5 clad pennies, and in the...

    Yesterday's finds

2.5 hours at a LARGE baseball/softball field/skatepark/deck hockey/outdoor pool complex in a neighboring town: Less pull-tabs than I expected, oldest coin was a 1963 Canadian penny...still no silver yet... [attachment 92759 DSC00015.JPG] When I got home, I hit the side yard for half an hour...

    Cleaning iron/steel

I've seen some before & after photos of BADLY corroded iron artifacts (you know, the kind in all my pics hehe), that cleaned up very nicely with no trace of the rusty corrosion blobs left except for clean pits. How is this done? I'm thinking electrolysis - perhaps for a lengthy amount of time...

    Church/schoolyard finds

Went to my Mom's farm the other day to hunt some sites I had researched a bit on: a mid-late 1800's schoolhouse (no longer there) with hard packed pea-gravel that was NOT FUN to dig in, with a 1950's church opposite. The whole area was an oil boom-town of 2,000+ residents at it's peak in 1887...

    Backyard finds

Finally got the new camera going, still getting the hang of it if you can't tell ;) [attachment 92619 DSC00003.JPG] Above is everything I've found in my yard to date, beginning about 2 weeks ago when I got my detector (minus some of the really big iron junk like rusty railroad spikes/tie...

    HI all...

I'm just now getting back into TH'ing after a 20-year hiatus, bought my first detector a little over a week ago (Fisher 1236-x2). It's really become an obsession in no time - I live in the oil region of western PA, so there's a lot of history, ghost towns, etc. I've already gotten tons of great...
