Need a Pointer ...

I'm looking to buy a pointer. Any suggestions on which ones to look at or which ones to avoid?

I use the Garrett Propointer and have been using iit for about 16 years.
I have dropped it numerous times yet it just keeps on working.
I started out with a Vibraprobe 570 which worked pretty good, but caused interference with my detectors.

I in
I would be hesitant to buy that one at that price…. There are Chinese knockoffs of it and they do not work very well.
That model sells for about $127 or so normally.
Glad you told me about these being knockoffs that was one of my underlying questions about them due to the price.

Have the Garrett Pro-Pointer also for years. Never an issue, works great for me. Now see they have the orange Carrot and the black Pro-Pointer II.
Years back when I got it I filled the speaker/buzzer slots with black RTV to quiet it down plus keeps dirt & water out of it.
Prior I also had the VibraProbe 570 - it's hanging out somewhere in the garage - for now the ole Pro-Pointer is my go-2

Yup stay away from those cheap price Chinese knockoffs - I have never tried one but guessing it's better than no pointer at all.
Get a decent pointer and it will help so much you'll never go again without one.
If something happens to my Pro-Pointer I have no problem getting another of the same although I see others that look interesting.
I pondered on trying an F-Pulse not long ago when I couldn't find my Pro-Pointer, but then I found it - whew!

I ordered a pinpointer and a few other things from Richard @ Backwoods today. He called me this morning to double check a couple of things and I mailed him a money order. I always try to buy from a Findmall sponsor. Puts food on his table and helps keep the website going! (y)

I also have the orange Pro-Pointer that I used in the river
last year..it also works great.
On my original Pro-Pointer, I wrapped tape around it where the speaker is to keep out debris and make it more quiet.
It’s been a good one!.
From my understanding, the Pro- Pointer II will detect deeper than the original version.
It also has different sensitivity settings and a mute function.

I had bad luck with the Propointer. Owned two which I purchased about 2 years apart about 14 years ago. The second was purchased because the first failed and I need a PP while it was in the shop.
One failed within warranty and both failed out of warranty (3 failures). I have a Whites TRX that I've been using regularly for almost 10 years. Treat it the same as the Propointers and it has never let me down.
I would buy another if they were still made. I love the fine tip as it is more accurate in finding a target. Not sure how the new Propointers hold up, but if the tip is still fat, I would look for something with better accuracy.
Trying to pinpoint a tiny target can be difficult with a fat tip.

Can’t blame you for you for not buying another one after that.
The first one I had failed too during warranty and they replaced it, but the replacement has been working since then (about 16 years)
I have read that the original ones did have some issues.
The one I presently have has been a good one though.

I know they made good ones, I just happened to have bad luck and after 2, I won't take another chance.
I'm the same with LG products. Burned twice yet it seems a lot of people love them.

The Garrett Carrot has been good to me, I've had mine now for about 5 years
The one nine volt battery last forever, after two full seasons I just replace it for peace of mind.
