Hi everyone, I was just thinking about all the Pennie’s that I dig every time I go out detecting. The majority of all my finds are Pennie’s. It takes me over an hour to dig about 25 Pennie’s versus about a minute to dig up a quarter. I’m thinking about passing up all the Penny VDI #s 40-42 and just focus on nickels, dimes and quarters for coins only. I know that I might miss some jewelry by doing this but I’m just tired of all the Pennie’s and allot of them are not spendable anyways. Just curious if it would be a good idea. Pull tabs are bad enough, but Pennie’s are just as bad. Those Pennie’s are kicking my butt.

I was just curious if anybody on the forum has tried that. I’m thinking that would give me more time for those silver coins instead of the dreadful copper or zinc pins that have no real value.

P.S. if I was 20 years younger would not mind at all, in my 70’s and those Pennie’s are just taking too much out of me.

I will often skip Zincs if there is no potential for IHPs. I won't skip Cu Cents. They hit too close to a Dime.

I've done that on sites where there were just to many coppers. Missing the silver.
Depending on the machine you can do that to an extent.
On my Tesoros. You can turn disc to the max and only hit silver. Though pure copper will still come thru loud and clear.
The Manticore you should be able to tune out zinc cents. Though I want those old Wheaties, Indian heads and large cents.
