I used a GT for several years on the beach together with the WOT coil. Great combination.

Then I sold the GT to buy me a Nox 600.

Used it for 2 years on the beach and was very sorry that I sold the GT.

So I sold the Nox to by me a Sovereign Elite together with a NEL 13 x 12 inch Tornado coil.

Never been so happy.

I will never sell my Sovereign again.

Take a patience to use and once you do learn it you seem to learn more and more every time you use it. You can never go too slow, but can goo to fast and lose depth or the real weak signals. These hate iron and break up the signals so you know it is iron. Most people hate the Sovereign when they first got it and some got rid of them and those that got to know them find they are one of the best detector there was.
First time user I recommend the sensitivity set all the counter clock wise until it click which i auto and easier to understand . As you get to know it you can go to manual which when you turn it clockwise right out of the click will be max sensitivity and the more clock wise get less sensitivity, backward from what you think it would be, To me I always use disc so you you can reject iron and use the tone to know what is under the coil.
Depth I got deeper coins with my Sovereign and did side my side with the Explorer XS with a friend of mine, only because I went slow and easy an know what to listen too because I got to know my Sovereigns and have tried all the model made and I have a GT now as it is a bit more powerfull, but the XS would be my second choice of the detector for me, just wish they were no so heavy.

Good luck with it and remember to go slow and listen close to what it is telling and when you get a iffy signal do the Sovereign wiggle and it is is a good target the tone will be easier to and louder too..

Newbie, got this detector, stupid question, the plastic cover, what’s it for, do you remove when detecting, or keep on ? I find the disc and notch buttons, ? Do they do anything, cannot see why to use, in a field, how would you set them, as you can see it’s the Sovereign xs-2A PRO
Bought from new maybe 23 years ago, and never used long story, now getting back into it, field was a marsh so just need to wipe down machine now

I assume you mean the coil cover......you generally leave it on to stop yout coil wearing out.Download the instruction manual for your detector for the notch controls,they allow you to select items you want to discriminate without over using the discrim which can lead to missing certain targets.......the instruction manual is always a good start.

The manual you posted is the original Sovereign which work good, but the next model a couple of years after that was the Sovereign XS which is the model that made the Sovereigns so well known. They had the original, the XS, the XS2 and then the XS2 a which added another switch to make it a single tone which defeated the purpose of the Sovereign I felt as the tones is what make it so good. Then came the Elite which switch the controls around so they were different than what most of us were used to and the volume was weaker which to some was good, but for some like me that are hard of hearing was harder to hear those deeper weak signals. A year or 2 later came out the GT which had more power I feel and some trash could confused me a little but found out by turning the coil a bit and come at the target you would hear the null of iron.
I wished they still made a new Sovereign that was lighter as they all got a bit heavy to swing all day. The Sovereign when you spent the time to understand them with the tones was a truly turn on and go detector and working slow and easy got the depth that I know my Explorer couldn't, the only detector I tried that did find something the Sovereign missed was the Equinox 800.
As you can see I really like my Sovereigns and those that spent the time to learn them also loved them and even if they bought a different detector kept their Sovereigns as it hard to get rid of it as we know what it can do and have the finds to prove it.
